Greg Oden has big night for Buckeyes

By RUSTY MILLER

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- It wasn't so much the career-high 29 points as the final score that put a smile on Greg Oden's face. Oden dominated inside while hitting 12 of 13 shots from the field to lead No. 7 Ohio State to an 82-63 victory over Iowa on Saturday night.

Oden is the real deal. He can carry this team against lesser teams, but the rest need to improve to compete with the elite. They MUST improve their ball handling, passing and decision making.

I wish the Big-10 was tougher. There aren't many "learning opportunities" left other than UW until NCAA tourney time.

I agree. We had a lot of big games early, but I wish we could have had some of those later on in the season. To me two things stand out. (I'm not trying to claim I know everything, so I'm sure people will disagree.) Anyways.
1.) Sometimes I think Thad Matta lets our kids play too much and doesn't take timeouts when an opposing team starts to go on a run. There are many times I have seen us go from a 1 or 2 point game to a 10 point game because we don't call timeouts.
2.) When many of our players aren't playing well, they seem to disappear from the game completely and not compete on either side of the ball.

Take away the opening 9-0 run and the closing 14-2 run and we would have lost. I am deeply concerned that Matta just doesn't know what he is doing. :roll1:

Buckeyes score KO
Conley Jr. takes out Iowa?s 7-footer; Oden takes care of the rest

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Mike Conley Jr. made 10 assists for the second game in a row.
The one he didn?t get credit for might have changed the game more than any of them.
Conley charged into Iowa center Seth Gorney, split open Gorney?s nose and sent him to the locker room 1.6 seconds before halftime last night. Without their 7-footer, the Hawkeyes were no match for the one the Buckeyes have. Greg Oden scored 18 of his career-high 29 points in the second half to lead seventhranked Ohio State to an 82-63 victory over Iowa in Value City Arena.

Oden skies for a career-high 29 points to lift OSU to win

Sunday, January 21, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus -- A right-handed hook from the right block late in the first half. That was Greg Oden's miss. And he walked a couple of times. Ohio State's 7-foot men's basketball center missed nothing else against Iowa on Saturday night, making 12 of 13 shots on the way to a career-high 29 points.
Though the 82-63 final didn't show it, there was a point when the Buckeyes' defense had vanished and they needed every ounce of Oden's offense to repel Iowa.

Oden nearly perfect as Buckeyes pummel Iowa
Sunday, January 21, 2007
By RUSTY MILLER AP Sports Writer

COLUMBUS Greg Oden had a career-high 29 points ? hitting 12 of 13 shots from the field ? to lead No. 7 Ohio State to an 82-63 victory over Iowa on Saturday night.
In addition to being almost perfect from the field, Oden hit all five of his free throws while shooting left-handed. He still wears an elastic brace on his shooting hand ? which he occasionally uses while shooting ? but he continues to use his off hand at the line.
