I agree, except I think you're wrong in that you're simply taking away those runs as if those minutes didn't occur. So, what I'm saying is, if you take away those runs, and you add in points for Iowa (which they should have scored anyway) during that same time frame, Iowa blows OSU out.

few quick thoughts (hopefully this time i can keep it quick)

keys that i saw
the switch from lewis to harris to eventually lighty on adam h. lighty played brillant in a stretch when osu pushed out the lead from 4 in the second half, haulska was silent during the run.

conley, i wont give up on that he cant shot from the outside, the thing that amazes me everytime is how intelligent of a player he is. at times he seems to cerebral and other times playes like lighting, but always smart ball. sure he turned the ball over on a few big trips down the floor, but playes well above his age in the head

oden, ive said it before, enjoy every minute of a player like this.

cook hit the two big threes during the push. huge.

lewis, i dont understand his role, to me he needs to be dialed back and play a little more under control. defensively still a liabitlity.

i have to go but more later maybe.

Runs are part of the game in college basketball. All teams have them. That's almost like saying "take away the 41 points that Florida scored in the BCS game and Ohio State would have won".

I think Thad Matta is a very competent and knows exactly what he is doing, except maybe in his selection of ties.

All teams have runs , the good teams control as much as possible the runs of the other team . And that is the difference of who wins and who loses. Last night we beat a good (not great) solid Iowa team and Matta coached them to it. Our record with Matta coaching is 16-3 . Stop whining.
The 3 losses are to teams in the top 5 and we played them before we could even do any gelling as a team.
In summation IMO Matta has the team just where we want them for the players we have and in the season's time frame.

Thad Matta knows what he's doing.

I'm just happy to see that the Basketball Bucks are figuring each other out... Against Iowa they recognized that the Hawkeyes were giving Oden enough room to work - the opposite of the Northwestern game where the Bucks recognized the opportunities given outside.

I think they're finally recognizing that they can wait to see what the defense will give them and have the talent to exploit it.

i disagree completely.

matta dictated both those games during stretch runs. matta set the tempo and the style of the game, forcing iowa to play that style or change it. that run early in the second half was one of mattas better coaching moves since hes arrived.

i hate to say it if you dont think matta is improving as a coach. hes begining to dictate rather than react the sign of a good/great coach imo.

With which post do you disagree? I agree with what you said above. My only point was that it looks like the boys are starting to gel, whereas when Oden first returned they looked awkward on the court together.

Didnt read thru the thread but have a couple thoughts...

- Conley - I know we talk about it all the time but this kid is special.

- Oden - Enjoy this year I think it will be his last and he is becoming a force.

As for the game the only real reason Iowa made the game close in the second half after we got out to that 15 pt lead was they were shooting lights out for about 10 possessions in a row. We were playing good defense but they were making tough shots.

Then when we started to shut them down we took the game over and pushed the lead out and it was over.

The team is finally learning to play together and gel. The talking heads arent talking much about us, but we are going to be a force to be reckoned with come March. Enjoy the ride as it should be real fun...

Oden seemed to be okay with his touches yesterday:

"It was all my teammates," the freshman said. "They got me the ball in the right spots and I had nothing else to do but to dunk it."

Plus, he forced Looby and Tate into foul trouble during the second half. This team is still working on its offensive identity. I think you just need to be a little more patient.

Sorry this wasn't posted earlier, was my birthday yesterday and went out shortly after the OSU game was over. But, I was incredibly impressed with how Matta decided to attack Iowa! Oden is starting to show why he is the best Freshman in the nation if not THE BEST PLAYER! 13-14 shooting, it doesn't get much better for the big man! I was telling everyone who was watching the game with me that Oden looked like that big kid on the playground who kept bullying all the kids around and taking their ball! LOL

Iowa hasn't been GREAT this year, but this win is still very impressive. Great win Bucks!
