Alabama Crimson Tide (official thread of Football, Fake Championships and Banjo)

This 'Bama defense is very very good, much improved from last season. I think that's hard to argue. Individually, for example, look at Eddie Jackson. I felt he was their biggest liability last season, mainly in pass coverage. He struggled to stay balanced and on his feet at times. I feel he is much improved this year, and has become a strength in their secondary.

I didn't see last nights LSU game being as lopsided as it actually was going into it. Felt Bama had the edge playing at home but also felt Fournette would get his and keep the Tigers in it. I was pulling for the Tigers, but if Bama continues their stout defensive play and running Henry up opposing teams asses all night, awfully tough fore anyone to stop, regardless of style of play.

It's up to Bama now to decide how they want to end their season. I hope OSU gets another shot at them in the playoff, but would be a tough tough game to win if they continue at this pace.

Hope LSU finishes the season strong - I like their program.
I think Alabama's pass defense looking good has more to do with the absolutely terrible QB play in the SEC this year. They've faced one good QB so far and he threw for nearly 400 yards on Bama.

actually, look at the box score.
running plays was almost identical to pass plays.

Harris had 19 attempts. was sacked once, ran at least twice when protection broke down, had at least 1 attempt called back for holding, and one play not charted due to def pass int.

so that's a minimum of 24 pass plays.
we ran the ball a total of 26 times. at least two of which were the Harris runs I mentioned in previous paragraph.

that equals roughly 24/24 run vs pass.

yes some runs were called back due to penalties as well, so in reality we slightly favored the run vs the pass. but not nearly as one dimensional in the play calling as many portray us.

I think it has more to do with the efficiency than playcalling. Without looking it up, I'm going to take a wild guess that LSU is very efficient over most of their games running the ball... and not very efficient passing throughout the year.

I'd also suspect that playcalling would follow a more predictable trend in games where your RBs aren't bottled up -- Saban basically forced Les into throwing it b/c Fournette had nowhere to go.... and ofc you were also forced into chasing the scoreline.

I believe Bama should be admitted into the final 4 automatically now no matter if they lose any more games or not. AWESOME. Nothing like the Bama fantasy land on ESPN. I wish tOSU would have kicked their asses last year so we wouldn't have to listen to the bullshit this year.

Last year was an ass beating in everything but the score board. If Tyvis Powell doesn't let White get behind him, the Buckeyes out gain Bama by almost 200 yards. I don't think I've ever seen Alabama get physically abused like they did in the Sugar Bowl last year. Even Oklahoma the year before didn't do what we did to them.

But but but we haven't played a strong schedule so there is that.

After last night, Harris is #34 on the passing efficiency list. Before last night, Harris hadn't faced much pressure.

The game became easier when the corners were able to cheat to the middle and help seal the edges because the pass rush was quick. The worst play of the game was on an unnecessary corner blitz.

Basically, all we saw last night, is that LSU was nearly identical offensively to UGA.

I am shocked that the OL was able to push their DL around so much. The best way to make Coker throw picks is to pressure him.

MSU will be a good test with Dak and Wilson. I'm not sure what was wrong with them early in the season, but they seem to be playing pretty well right now. They also always seem to play Bama tough at home.

Bama, like everybody else, still has a long way to go.

I don't know of any Bama fans that disagree with you. It wasn't really that close of a game.

I think the Mississippi State game needs to be played before I am willing to say Bama has completely cured their vulnerability to spread/passing teams.

I also still question if Kiffin can stay patient and keep running Henry if a game gets close or they get behind.

They are a handful no doubt but hammering a team they are built to stop doesn't indicate they have fixed what needed fixing.
Bama is built to stop LSU's offense. No way LSU would win, unless their defense played out of their minds. They didn't. ole Miss, aTm and Miss State (none are are as good as LSU, none or very good at all) have a better shot to beat Bama, one did, one didn't. I know I'll be pulling hard for MSU. I'm sick and tired of this bama shit.

The O-line play of Bama is what shocked me. We all knew LSU wouldn't be able to run the ball on Bama and likely wouldn't score many points. We all knew Henry was a beast, but your line was better than I've seen all year. That turned it into a blow out. Puss rush was also surprisingly good, but that might have been because LSU hasn't practiced throwing all year and didn't have their protection down.

Alabama has a ton of different packages on defense. If they play a team like LSU that is methodical, huddles and prefers to bash their heads in against a brick wall they are exceptional. If they play a very good team with tempo that substitutes sparingly and uses a dynamic offense they struggle because all those packages and extra personnel are left standing on the sidelines.

Bama did to us what we typically do to just about everyone else.

They were not only more physical in the trenches, but also a lot deeper.
LSU's youth and lack of line depth (both sides) finally caught up to us.

While they were subbing in fresh strong bodies, we kept our tired worn out bodies in the game.

True. This year, however, they have spent a lot of time doing "quick" substitutions that allow them to change players even when the offense doesn't. This has had mixed results. The most effective change has been the use of simpler packages when the offense uses tempo.

Alabama is giving up 5.6 YPA on pass plays. A pretty good number (same as Ohio State). They are giving up 2.5 YPA on run plays.

Both of these numbers are better than last year. Especially the passing.

Which is why little Nickie has been so outspoken against fast paced offenses.
