ALCS 7 games: Red Sox or Rays?

What a season. I can't tell you how awesome this is having watched these guys in person over the course of the past 3 years. Every year I kept thinking they could crack .500 because they've been banking so much young talent, but it seemed like they could never overcome adversity. I can't believe how fast this team has matured. I was always so critical of Joe Madden ("Why is Iwamura batting leadoff with Upton and Crawford on this team?"), but I have to give him all the credit in the world. Kudoos, too, to the front office. I was very on the fence about the Delmon Young / Matt Garza trade, but it has worked out beautifully. Hopefully now the community will go out and spend some money on a new Bay-front stadium for this franchise. Congrats RAYS!

I have a friend (yes I have one) who lives in Spring Hill Florida and has always been a baseball nut especially an Indians fan. Anyhow, he has told me that the people in Tampa Bay and the surrounding area, probably all over Florida, couldn't care less about the Rays until they reached the playoffs and now everybody has jumped on their bandwagon. The home attendance has been atrocious this season. They almost even didn't have sellouts for the playoff games and their fans are ugly:biggrin:

Look at their attendance figures. They are sad. I swear they paid people to attend the playoff games!

A big problem down here is that a lot of people are from somewhere else and keep their team loyalties. Which is fine but it would be nice if they could support the local team too. We've been to a lot of games and I'll root for the Rays against anyone but Cleveland but many people won't do that. Going to games at the Trop was like going to games at Cleveland Stadium before the Indians moved to Jacobs Field... you could buy a ticket and pretty much sit anywhere... nobody cared. They only time when they had a decent crowd was when the Sox or the Yankees were in town.... I hope that changes but I seriously doubt it. It;s the same for the Marlins, Lighting, Dolphins, Magic and Bucs.... when they lose these people are quick to jump ship no matter what the sport.

I'd probably go to more Rays games but we have the Sarasota Reds (Single A) 5 minutes away... tickets are only $5 or I get them free from work.

I should be there for game 2.... but I won't be ringing a freakin' cowbell.

The one thing they really irritates my friend and I is that since we are both Indians and Browns fans and we have suffered since 1964 for your World's championship and then you have the bandwagon fans at Tampa with first the Buccaneers and now the Rays. It just doesn't seem fair.:(

How many Lightning / Bucs games have you been to? I've been to quite a few and they're always almost sold out or sold out. That may be changing with the Lightning if they have another bad season, but Bucs tickets sell pretty well.

In 2006, when they were 4-12, I was at a few Bucs games that had a lot of empty seats... last year they're 9-7 and the fans came back. They're winning this year and they fans are staying. I've been to about 3 games each year since I moved here (2004) but none this year... I don't have the time.
