Yes, but each year the SEC has the greatest 2,3 and 4 loss teams in the history of intergalactic football.
I watched portions of three different Mississippi State games this year, and I think it's plainly evident that they are the best nine loss team in the country.

Comparing 06 FL to 02 OSU is silly

Every Gator fan wants desperatley to believe this year's FL has a prayer 01-08-07 because of the season OSU had in '02. It's apples and monkeys, people. Case in point:

02 OSU was one of the most talented CF teams in years. I believe every player on that defense was drafted, and we had guys like AJ Hawk on special teams. OSu won the title because they were the most talented and best coached teams in the country. UF thi syear doesn't have near the talent OSU had in 02. Not even close.

OSU had close games in '02 because their premier offensive players was injured for much of the season. When he played, the OSU offense usually played very well. I'm speaking of #13.

OSU had the best special teams in the nation in 02. Nugent and Groom were as good as it gets at their respective positions. FL has a garbage PK, and a below average punter.

And OSU went 14-0. They were proven to be unbeatable that year. FL has a loss, and will eventually have 2 losses. Big difference.

If anything 06 FL should remind people of 05 OSU. A good team that is one year away from possible greatness.

"Ohio State is one of the weakest No. 1 teams in 25 years," said former Washington State and Iowa State coach Jim Walden, the only Harris voter to pick Florida No. 1. "They played one of the softest schedules of any No. 1 team in memory. They had all summer to get ready for Texas. Then they had 11 weeks to get ready for Michigan."

I suppose we are weaker than a certain colorado team that finished on top with a loss, a tie and a 5th down conversion...:grr::huh:

I don't think 06 FL is comparable to 05 OSU, because Leak is gone after this season. 05 OSU evolved into 06 OSU because of Troy.

I understand your points though, and would concede that Nugent and Groom were the lynch pins of the 02 team. That team could win games kicking field goals, this years Florida team wins games by blocking field goals.

I disagree that this years Florida team lacks the talent of 02 OSU though. At kicker, punter, and RB, maybe, but I'd hesitate to dismiss Florida with one blanket comment. Zook didn't leave the cupboard bare in Gainesville.

02 OSU was one of the great "teams" in OSU history, though aside from possibly Nugent, Doss, and Will Smith, I'm at a loss to name any other starters that would even crack a two-deep roster of Ohio State's all time greats now. Gamble and Hartsock would be borderline, at best.

i'm pretty sure that Mike Jenkins is still Ohio State's all time leading reciever.

Meyer is from Ohio, and was an asst. at OSU. The media will underestimate our speed (see 2002), but don't count on Meyer making the same mistake that Coker made.

:osu:
Coker was an assistant at OSU as well...he coached defensive backs from '93 to '94. Can't imagine he underestimated our speed, but his players probably did.

Yeah, I think his players just thought it was going to be a walk in the park, that does say something against his coaching though, he should have been able to get that out of their heads. :osu:

Coker's players underestimated our speed because Coker had absolutely zero control over that program. Say what you want about Meyer, but he has much more control over the Gators.

Do you really think that over the next two NFL drafts this FL team will have 17 players drafted? Because that's the number the 02 OSU team had. They were extremely talented. More so than this FL team. We'll wait and see how the drafts work out. The NFL can evaluate talent better than you and I.

Oh, I don't know about that. Rick Meir got drafted.

I believe Swamp Gas makes UF look like the biggest fan base I know of to suffer from MAC-school inferiority complex.

EDIT: Idiotic, chest-thumping posts by Buckeye fans aside, I still think they're overreacting.
