Main contenders: Oregon, Ohio State, USC

Ohio State has the edge for the high four-star defensive end, especially after he had such a fantastic visit to Columbus for the showdown against Notre Dame earlier this season when he met LeBron James and other celebrities and athletes.

He’s also visited Oregon and the pitch from coach Dan Lanning and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi, among others, was significant. USC will get him back to some games this season, and the Trojans cannot be counted out as Uiagalelei weighs heading all the way to Columbus or staying close to home.

NEED to get 1 of Uiagalelei, Keeley and Wilson

Naw, Nut, we'll be needing two, unless one of the now freshmen lights a fuse and shows some stuff. didn't see any of the DE young 'uns there, but betting we only see this and next year of Jack and JTT. We're losing two/three DEs this year, so the unknowns in the pipeline better produce at a high level next year. Very sorry to see the few passes thrown by the 2 and 3 QB. I get it, after the punt scramble caused a rift between coaches, Day didn't want to be perceived as piling it on/running it up. Still the face of the second QB looked like he'd bitten into a lemon as he takes one step and sticks it in the belly of a RB. Somehow just not that interested in recruiting this year, don't study it as much.....anyway, Go Bucks!

It's great to be in the conversation with and about these three. Knowles D has helped immensely, but Coach Johnson's L has stepped up muchly as well. Going on absolutely no insider information, I would say that it depends on how the chips fall. Meaning that there won't be all three committing, but the first two that verbal will be "in". Again, going with the gut, I'd bet vcash that Wilson is first, then Keeley, with Mr. U going north to Oregon. The product tOSU D is putting on the field this year is turning the heads of the better recruits for '24 & '25. Don't think it's enough to turn the heads of the '23 guys (read that Caleb?), but next year could be looking pretty fly. Now, all the Buckeyes gotta do is get McCord to show off his arm, as it's pretty much a given that CJ is going pro, and the WR room could be lining up to sign up. Hopefully we get Okuna for our 'big catch' on the OL, but what Frye has done so far this year (with same personnel that was here last year....) will show out - although haven't heard much from the OL recruits lately. Go Bucks!

The high four-star defensive end who could push for five-star status talks regularly with position coach Larry Johnson at Ohio State and it’s one of many reasons why the Buckeyes are in great shape in Uiagalelei’s recruitment. Oregon is also very high and its success this season cannot hurt but watch out for Georgia here. The family has reached out to the Bulldogs and some close to him think it’s a good idea for him to take a much closer look at the national champs. A visit hasn’t been set up yet but if it happens then things could get more interesting.

Not much more info, except that UGA could be entering the race. I'm sure his dad was the one who reached out. I still think OSU lands him in the end though

This is good to know regarding "Big Dave"(btw this is from Birm):

I know it's hard to do but it's probably worthwhile to try and separate what Big Dave says on twitter, etc. from what's reality. He's much less of a "decider" in this recruitment than he was in that of DJ from what I've heard.

Perhaps Georgia is taking that money that they were throwing at Damon Wilson and now pitching it to MU. It’s possible they were confident in Wilson up until recently and now they need to fill that spot.

Or, I could be wrong and Big Dave saw what they were throwing at Wilson and wanted to get in on it. Either way, my top 3 remains the same:

1a Wilson
1b Keeley

3 Uiagalelei

I think we would all be pumped to land Matayo...but you have the exact same 1a and 1b as me. Wishing/hoping/praying that we get Wilson and Keeley as bookends, that would be a coup akin to getting JTT and Sawyer in the same class. But hey, if we can get Matayo somehow I will be pumped...he is an incredible player and I think the only trepidation is the parental influence/motivation.

But I am going to throw out to everyone that Lamarcus Joyner was a similar situation (not the same, but the general gist is there) and I don't think we would have been upset to see him do what he did at FSU in Columbus, so if we land this guy I think we will forget all about the concerns we have right now. And if we don't win out here, I think we sit in a very good position with Wilson and Keeley as of right now.

With NIL we’re only going to see more of these family members with their pull on the children. But tbh, I don’t remember Big Dave being mentioned at all with DJ, and he was a 5star and #1 QB

And to add to what I wrote previously, according to Birm, take everything from Big Dave with a big grain of salt. MU is closer to his mom, who is quiet and reserved and wants her son to make the best decision for his life on his own. Big Dave is smoke and mirrors and enjoying the attention is son's bring. But neither has much of a relationship with him. Birm has believed that MU will stay west to be closer to mom, hence why he never forecasted him in OSU's class.
From Birm:
Hate to use the word "hate" when it comes to a kid and his dad especially when I've not spoken to him about it personally but I think there's a reason that mom is the real impactful voice in this specific recruitment. I don't think that's coincidental.
She doesn't have a preference. It's more about whether or not he wants to pick a school to stay closer to her, not her trying to make that happen.

So in essence, no one knows anything about Matayo. Big Dave's twitter posts mean absolutely nothing. He's not the gatekeeper, he's just along for the ride and likes the attention he can get from various fan bases. So makes sense why he reached out to UGA, yet MU hasn't made a visit in months to anyone
