Carroll Hoff "Beano" Cook

I love the internet. Old threads can sometimes be hilarious. Don't want to call anyone out, but this whole hindsight 20/20 thing is freaking awesome. :tongue2:
Some dumb ass sports writer in Nashville named Joe Biddle has his "top 25" where OSU is ranked #15 behind scUM and FSU. He is an idiot, he doesn't get a vote so who cares.

2004 final polls:

AP: UM #14; FSU #15; tOSU #20
USA Today: UM #12; FSU #14; tOSU #19

ESPN: Chat with Beano Cook - SportsNation

Hey, an ESPN chat and everyone is preoccupied with 'over rated' Ohio State. Go figure! :roll2:

Josh (Columbus, Oh): Are in the consensus that believes the Buckeyes are over-rated or do you see them as a legit contender to run the table?

Beano Cook: Legitimate contender.

Beano Cook: Jim Tressel will have a contender every year until he retires, except for an occasional down year when they win only nine games. They have the best band, the best stadium, everything going for the Buckeyes. They have the dotting of the I!

Bernard (Princeton, NJ): Dotting the 'I' is the most overrated spectacle in college football. Try doing that flip the Penn Stte drum major does Beano!

Beano Cook: You had better see Dr. Fraser Crane. Or maybe Dr. Phil.

Beano was on Cowherd the other day, talking about how Penn State and Notre Dame would win "9 or 10 games" this season. It must be July, again.

He further added that PSU would definitely finish second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State this year. Of course, he gave us no shot at USC. :ohwell:

I'm too young to know the answer but was there some point Beano was considered some sage of CFB? He gets the respect as if he's the Walter Kronkite of CFB.
Yeah. He was a publicist for Pitt, ABC, and CBS decades ago. He's been at ESPN since the mid-80s -- helped launch GameDay before it became the road show it is today. He's one of the few college football historians around that can claim to have seen many of the legends play going all the way back to the 40s and 50s.

He's prone to both ridiculous hyperbole when it comes to players/teams he suspects will do well, and not mincing words when it comes to players/teams he suspects will have a down season. Senility hasn't helped.

At least Powlus won the two Heismans

It's not Powlus's fault he didn't play defense.
