Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

And not a star player among them, Rip's their best player and I'd put him ever so slightly above Mo in a comparisson. And Mo will be our 3rd or 4th option this year deppending on if we sign Artest or make a trade for say Boozer:smash: or Gerald Wallace. Sucks to live in in TSUN more now than ever before, too bad it always sucked a big one to call it home to begin with.:scum4:
I don't think the Cavs will be trading for anyone else. They've already used all of their tradeable assets. The only other big contract they could move would be Z and I don't see that happening. They can sign 1 guy for 5.whatever mil and another for 2 mil. They can also bring back anyone that was on the roster last season without worrying about the cap.

the only way they make any trades is by resigning wally to a non-guaranteed contract for decent cash, then deal him to take another team that can buy him out and dump salary.

but, use the MLE on McDyess and the BAE on Anthony Parker and call it an offseason.

I doubt McDyess would need the whole MLE so they might be able to break ti between him and another vet. After reading this Cleveland Cavaliers target unrestricted free agent Charlie Villanueva - cleveland.com I don't know if I want them to sign CV or anyone else besides Andy for more than just next season. Right now they stand to have 22 mil to play with next summer and any long term contracts they sign now will subtract from that number. Even giving 7-8 mil to Andy might ruin their chance to sign a guy like Bosh.

Looking like Turk to the Blazers.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan is flying to Orlando to have a Wednesday night dinner with the Blazers' top free-agent target, Hedo Turkoglu.

Turkoglu's agent, Lon Babby, said Wednesday that Turkoglu will then travel to Oregon for a Thursday tour of the Blazers' facilities and meetings with Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard and assistant GM Tom Penn.

With the Blazers projected to have $8 million to $9 million in salary-cap space this summer -- with firm figures not known until the league announces next season's salary cap on July 8 -- and the Orlando Magic lacking the financial flexibility to re-sign Turkoglu after trading for Vince Carter last week, Turkoglu is widely expected to land with the Blazers as the first marquee free-agent signing of Pritchard's reign.

Yeah, Andy kinda throws a wrench into everything. If the Cavs KNOW Andy is gone no matter what, then I wouldn't mind signing CV for more than one year. But if it is 50/50 that Andy might come back with his tail between his legs finding out no one wants to give him money, then it is hard to give anyone else a multi-year deal.

Another thought... If I was Ferry, I would offer Andy a one-year deal right now for $7-$8 million and I would tell his agent, you know no one will give AV alot of money this year with things being tight. And next year everyone will have money (ie cap room) and he can look for his big payday next year.

I would add a P.S. to that note. If you want a multi-year deal from us, we won't go for more than $6 million.

I've said it before and will continue to do so. Bosh will only be obtained by the Cavs through a S&T, this isn't a bad thing it's just the way it has to be. Toronto can make the largest offer to him, therefore it is his intrest to sign with them. If Bosh identifies Cle as his prefered destination he will force the hand of Toronto. Toronto benefits by obtaining solid player/picks/cap space in a S&T. Cleveland wins because they will not have space to straight up sign a max FA. However, Bosh could make it clear that he is leaving after this season as many expect and it would force Toronto to have to deal him by the deadline or lose him and get nothing in return. A deal like Z, JJ, CV or Andy, 2010 1st,2011 1st, and 2012 1st would most likely get it done. Z could accept a buyout and return for the postseason ala McDyess.

Picture a lineup with:
Mo
Parker
LeBron
Bosh
O'neal

and Bench of
F/A?/West/Boobie
West/Green/Kinsey/ Eyenga?
Parker/CV?/Jawad
CV or Andy/Darnell
Z/Andy?

I am not convinced CV is sold on the Pistons and we have until the 8th to convince him it makes more business sense for him to come here to win games and compete for championships. CV has shown a clear interst in us and I'm sure he is still at least a little interested.

Also, the Jazz look poised to resign Milsap, which means Boozer is likely headed elsewhere. The pistons could offer Oberto's contract(not guranteed), and picks for Boozer. This works for both teams, Jazz can afford to resign Milsap and Pistons pick up their former #1 target. This trade leaves Det with no room for CV, however, the Thunder are actively pursuing Milsap, and may turn to CV if Milsap decides to return to the Jazz.

It's in his interest to get the eff out of Canada.

Villanueva reportedly agress to sign with Detroit for 5yrs. $35million.

Pistons agree with Gordon, Villanueva (UPDATE) - CBSSports.com

so, detroit had $19 million in cap room, and used almost $18 million on those 2. they will likely have enough room to sign their 1st round pick, but probably not the 3 2nd rounders, and they, as of right now, only have 12 guys on their roster counting their 1st rounder.

and no coach.

lol, good decision Big Smooth, all for slightly more than the MLE.
