CB Damon Arnette (2nd Team All B1G)

Is there any history of mental illness? Sometimes a criminal is just a criminal, amd it'snot much more complicated than that. Again, the moment he pointed a loaded gun in someone's face is the moment that he flushed any benefit of the doubt down the toilet.

Not going to hijak this thread but people aren't born "criminals", I have never seen a baby just stabbing people just because they were born a criminal. When a person is lost, there are no limits to what they will do. I guess the difference between me and other posters and you on this thread is we support the whole person and not just them when they are scoring touchdowns for our team.
Furthermore, its apparent that he needs help, it takes nothing to be a good person and wish him well...

Ord always seemed to be one of the first people to call out a buckeye when they f up while a buckeye. Tressel probably still has him blocked on MySpace.

The “help they need” ??? What kinda help is that exactly? Someone who sticks by his every move and physically tries to stop him from being a dumb ass? What a snowflake answer if I’ve ever heard one.

There are people who legitimately need help. And there are people who just keep making dumb decisions and don’t ever learn and make a habit of ignoring all the help in the world and purposely turn away from the correct path.
So we should hope he keeps making dumb decisions and ignoring help and continuing down the path he's on?

I'm not close to Damon, I don't know what kind of help he needs. It could be psychological/psychiatric, it could be rehab, it could be medical, it could be from a teacher or (tough) love from family and friends. I do know that it's in the best interest of Damon, the next valet he interacts with, and the general public and tax payers, if he finds and uses that help.

I will absolutely continue to hope he figures it out. He's human and, as such, is capable of change. He can be Maurice Clarett or he can be Art Schlichter. If you're not at least hoping for the former, it says as much about you as it does about him.

Per Mike Mayock, who might not be a bastion of truth, but I see no reason a lie benefits him in this case.

- "Mayock acknowledged there was “significant concern” over Arnette’s character coming out of college, but the Raiders felt they could help him on and off the field and knew the Ohio State coaching staff well enough to trust its advice and take on Arnette"

-

“Very painful decision,” Mayock said in a conference call. “We spent significant time, effort and resources trying to help him in all aspects of his life.”

Mental care has emerged at the forefront of NFL front offices these last few years. Given that these picks are an investment, teams (seem) to be more willing to help these players transition from leaving college.

Calvin Ridley said he has been offered assistance by the Falcons in dealing with his off-field struggles. But to my knowledge he had also admitted them and sought help.

If true, and the Raiders knew of some suspect character, I find it highly unlikely they didn't* offer financial and psychological consultation starting Arnette's rookie season. I do believe there's some self awareness that they are the Raiders and are now based in Vegas.

I don't recall hearing a rash of any issues with Damon while at tOSU. Appears to be only when he got a pay day and wound up in sin-city did the switch flip from attitude to attitude along with action/intent.

If he has already denied help, guidance or structure, then my opinion is more in line with Ords. Especially when you pull a gun on a valet who have strict guidelines on their job, then continue to act like a hardass about it.

Money can change people, sometimes it's for better and sometimes it's the opposite.

It’s a snowflake attitude to think the guy is doing the things he is doing because he just hasn’t had the correct help.

That’s what the world needs….just the correct kind of “help”….unreal.

Give me a freaking break.

Do I hope he gets better? Of course. I want to see assholes quit being assholes every day.

But do I think he is doing stupid shit because he is a fucking dumb ass and only pieces of shit point a loaded gun at innocent people? Yes, that’s exactly what I think. And he’s not doing this because he is just missing the correct “help”.

Feel free to move this convo to the Pussification of America thread if you wish.

Might as well just toss him in jail and let him rot.

I don't actually feel that way, but it sounds like you do. People can and have changed..... with different influences... it's pretty well documented.

I agree that he's being a dumbass. I also think he has the mental capacity to not be.

Can't go hurting innocent people.

Maybe, once he's safely away from being a danger to others, he can figure some shit out but that's a secondary concern. I hope he does not because he was an OSU player but so he'll stop being a dangerous fucking criminal.

The problem is that the place they send you to keep you from hurting others isn't going to make you a better person for it, so he's likely to come out the other side of this worse than before but you never know.

MoC got his shit together in jail, did his time and is now, by all accounts, a positive and functioning part of society.
