Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

As long as Brian Kelly is there and the Big East continues to suck scrotum sack, Cincinnati will have a great record year in and year out and will be playing in BCS games. Does that mean they'll be a great program or a great team? No, but there will be a lot of media sperm-gurgling for them.

...until they start laying eggs year in and year out in bowl games, like they did last year against a bad Va Tech team.

and what makes you say that last year's VaTech team was 'bad'?? Isn't it pretty much the same team that is currently ranked 4th?

aren't the facilities pretty much the reason Kelley is going to leave?

in terms of building the indoor practice facility and additional practice fields, yes.

UC had two practice fields above Nippert Stadium not that long ago. They were replaced when they expanded the baseball facility.

Alumni and private donors are raising the money. It hasn't been an easy sell in this economy but it is moving forward.

Partly. The weight room and some of the football offices have been re-done, and they are quite nice from what I understand. The stadium, (while being a good venue to watch a game) are antiquated and small with no boxes. I believe that they are in process of raising money for an upgrade, and that effort has been on track. BK has out in his contract saying that they must continue to upgrade facilities, and he is happy with the progress made according to the Enquirer.

2008 Virginia Tech finished its regular season 8-4, which is by no means a stellar record (and is pretty bad, when you're talking about BCS bowl teams). They lost to East Carolina. As far as BCS bowl teams go, Va Tech wasn't good. They wouldn't have been in the BCS if they played in any other conference (well, except for the Big East, I guess).

Or the Big 10. People who live in 1 - 6 conference bowl record houses shouldn't be tossing stones around. Until the Big 10 starts winning some damn bowl games again they're going to be faced with this kind of well-if-not-them-then-who? kind of thinking in the polls. IU getting totally plastered by VIRGINIA! Sparty choking against CMU. Wisconsin and Penn State getting bitch slapped in bowl games -- it all comes home to roost.

Frankly, over the past 10 years I'd say that Va Tech, BC and Miami would have won the majority of their games had they been members of the Big 10 or PAC 10.

As for UC, tomorrow night will settle many of the questions being raised. If they win you'll see UC ahead of OSU in the polls again. And until the Bucks get to the Penn State, Iowa, Michigan part of their schedule there will be little for the poll voters to consider to change their minds.

Should UC beat USF and lose no more than 1 game they will remain ahead unless the Buckeyes sweep.

It could be worse. It could be Notre Dame.

The Big Ten played Texas, USC, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida State, Kansas and Missouri.

The Big East played Va Tech, Memphis, North Carolina, NC State, Oregon State (a 3-0 win over Pitt, by the way), and Buffalo.

Ummm.... not a close comparison. I'll grant Cincinnati that they could compete with Iowa and Wisconsin this year for the top half of the Big Ten, but they've got a long way to go before they can start talking about the Buckeyes.

And that's sad if your signature win of the season is over the Bulls of South Florida. Just sayin... The Big East is high mid-major country.

Yep. I heard some ESPN BCS "guru" last week projecting that an unbeaten Big East champ would get the same treatment as unbeaten Boise State in the end-of-regular-season polls and get left out of the title game for any 1-loss team from a true major conference. I laughed.

He and 90% of the coaches today in D1 football also got an out in his contract saying he can do whatever he wants since he's a grown man, and he'll leave for a better team (ND) in a couple years.

FIFU

Again, they are not and never will be a top 10 program. They have the ability to be a top 10-15 team every few years. Frankly that's not bad for the UC program.
