Most of the time fans blame the coaching for our poor Offensive Line development. But that begs the question, why do the players we sign continue to thrive after they've joined the team?

I have to believe its the scouting. We seem to be fine at scouting WR and DL players but terrible at OL and TE.

The Brock Bowers fall might be legitimate. Not because of talent or production, but I don't know if he's going to run or workout at the combine.

I don't think he has too, his tape speaks for itself. But NFL teams are funny about seeing a dude at the combine or at a Pro-Day so he may very well drop.
NOW - I don't expect him to fall to 18. If Cincinnati wants him, they might have to move up and go get him. According to Google, the Bengals haven't traded up a single time in the first round in the past 25 years.

I think the last time was 1995 to get Va'Jaina Carter.

That's interesting for sure. I agree on each point - he doesn't need the combine with how prolific he is on tape against top competition. And he won't be there at 18 (I'll faint if he is). I would be cool moving up to say 12 or 13 to get him, though like you said we never do that. I absolutely would for what I view to be the next Kelce who is a tremendous athlete with no injury history to my knowledge. We don't have a ton of needs to address in the draft but TE is definitely one of them...fill that spot with an elite TE and still grab a good OT Round 2.


Speaking of Bulldogs, the Browns just cut Chubb. Wonder if that is due to the severity of his injury and progress? I say that because word is the Bengals are going to cut Mixon. Chubb could be a good move if he can get back to form.

He's owed 4mm in dead money by Cleveland but they'll save 10 mm by cutting him. Given the fact that its a stretch that he'll be ready to go this season, it makes sense.
Whoever gets him is going to get one pissed off dude when he is up and running.

My personal thought with Chubb and the Bengals is that he'd be productive, but I don't know how much he complements Touchdown Joe. Cleveland NEVER threw to him (and neither did UGA for that matter). He's not an all purpose back.

Just my $.02

Yeah the money side of it made sense for Cleveland considering he might not be fully ready to go to begin the year.

But I was thinking if the Bengals can get an equivalent contract that they're likely shedding from Mixon, it could be a great match. Chase Brown (RB from Illinois we picked last year) shows great promise as a pass catcher and compliment to a guy like Chubb. If we don't use Chubb much in the passing game, I still see him as a considerable improvement if he's healthy. If not, we just need to draft a RB fairly early, like 3rd or 4th round.

Also thinking about TE, if we can't get Bowers, Stover looks pretty damn good if he falls to the 3rd round where we're at. Not at all outside the realm of possibilities.

This may sound unrealistic, but I’d honestly rather they sign someone like Derrick Henry to a 1 year, fully guaranteed deal. Perfect short yardage back, and a guy who can grind out those tougher games against AFC North opponents. Henry has to be hungry to win a ring, and I’m sure he’d be willing to take a significant pay cut from his previous contract to get that.

RBs have a shelf life of about 5 years. Easy position to learn, and always take a pounding. Not certain whether those years are a bell shaped curve, or a climbing curve for four, and a sharp drop-off for number 5. Do know that unless the RB is a superstar/worldbeater, the market (NFL draft) doesn't favor RBs in the category of QBs, OTs, CBs that highly. Gotta think the club docs will play a large part in determining which one to take. Miyan's available, and he's from Cincy.

If we can get good value for Tee, I am ok with a trade. The second half of last season I felt like he was mentally checked out most of the time...very talented but if we draft a WR early on to go with Chase, Irwin, Yosh and Jones, that will work just fine if Burrow is healthy. My preference is finding a way to keep Higgins, but I just feel it would not be the end of the world if he went elsewhere. My only caveat in that scenario is we go with WR in the 2nd or 3rd, and only move up if it means landing Alt or another top-tier OT.

Yeah that is a bummer. Met Reader's mom in the Atlanta airport, she had a bedazzled jean jacket with a "Reader's Mom" on the back...that is what tipped me off that she was DJ Reader's mom lol. She was a hoot and loved Cincy, she said DJ was so grateful to be there. We're going to miss him on and off the field, but he did have some injury issues and production went down, shame because his first couple of years were pretty damn good.

If for some reason there is a run on OTs in the first round, the class is deep there and we can wait for an OT in the second round if the right DT is sitting there. The DT draft class is not super deep though, so I would imagine we will take one in Rounds 1 or 2. That being said, I think one of Latham or Mims will be there and if so, take them...Alt will be gone but Fashanu could be there and that would be a terrific pick. If its Fuaga or Guyton, I am out...think they are serious projects and we can't take a developmental guy right now.

I swear if we take another WR in the 1st round due to the Higgins uncertainty, I am going to lose it. Protect Burrow and he will get it to the WRs we have even if Higgins is not back.
