Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I really don't know anything about Casspi. Anyone want to give a little breakdown?

He's the Jewish Michael Jordan. He has a nice flair to his game. Was stuck in Sacramento behind Thornton/Francisco Garcia but was a past first round pick. He had a huge international following as a teenager for his pretty explosive game.

He'll start next year at SF for the Cavs. His shot is pretty good and he can slash. As usual with international prospects, his defense is questionable.

He never got much of a chance in Sac-town so iit will be interesting to see how he develops next to Kyrie and Thompson.

Definitely don't agree with this move right now. Statistically Hickson is much better. In almost every single area. Plus, he was my favorite Cav. Tough move for me. This better pay off.

If we get Casspi and a 1st rounder, it's already a big payoff for Cleveland.

Not official yet, but it's a done deal...Omri Casspi and a future first round pick to the Cavs for JJ Hickson. Casspi has been notifed bt Sacremnto FO it will be announced in a few hours...

Great move by Cavs FO. Especially if pick is for 2012. Tristan now has the runway to start at PF.
good catch. Pick might be top 10 protected though.
In addition, the draft pick from Sacramento could be a late lottery pick if the team doesn't turn things around. It likely would be top-10 protected, so the Kings wouldn't send it to the Cavs until they're drafting 11th or lower in the first round.

After next year Hickson was a FA and he would have demanded far too much money than what he is worth. JJ has a lot of issues between the ears. I appreciate the effort he put in last year, but Byron Scott wanted nothing to do with him. The stats he put up were nice, but I'm not sure JJ is a "winning" player.

The future first could be a great pick depending on protection. Keep your fingers crossed it isn't protected after 2012....

And Casspi could end up being a good player which is a bonus....

I can't hear that name without thinking of this book. I'm sure there's a "The cupboard was bare!!!" joke to be made somewhere.

I'm a little confused on how the protected lottery pick works. Let's say after this season they get the 11th pick, does that mean that we don't get their pick? Does it have to be 12 or higher for us to get it?

Yes.

The protections were just released, and it isn't pretty.

Pick is fully protected in 2012. If Kings make playoffs we get it.
2013 - Protected 1-14
2014 - Protected 1-13
2015 - Protected 1-12
2016-17 - Protected top 10
2018 - We'd just get a second round pick

Ouch.

We're basically rooting for Sacramento to make the playoffs as quickly as possible....

I initially liked the trade, but these protections are absurd. You'd think Grant could have negotiated these down a bit....

This deal screams "we just want to get rid of him... make it look like we got something in return please"

Sacramento has built a nice group of young players, wouldn't surprise me to see them squeak in next year.
They've built up some nice talent there. I know they were bad last year.. so it would be a big turnaround.

Disclaimer - I am not that smart when it comes to basketball.

this is false. the PER's of each are actually fairly similar. casspi is also better in efficiency stats. that doesn't even mention that casspi is substantially better defensively.
