Deron Williams (NJ Nets)

Wtf are the nets thinking? I'd take Favors and Harris over Williams any day of the week. Utah wins in this situation. Maybe Jerry Sloan will come back now as well.

Plus a few picks. I think the Jazz are big time winners here. Deron was also unhappy with the Jazz and would have been a free agent in 2012. Good trade for the Jazz IMHO.

For those that think this trade was a good one for the Nets, did you know that Williams is eligible for free agency after next season? Guess who's not? Favors and those two first-round picks.

What would be a better option for him? (Largest Market.) The Nets will get better with him and Brook Lopez. (Largest Market!) Also, Avery Johnson is widely known to be a player-friendly coach. (Largest Market?) I think Deron landed in the perfect spot. ($Largest Market$)

You've clearly missed my point. I think this was a bad deal from the Nets' perspective, not from Deron's.

This was a big gamble for the Nets, and it could pay huge dividends. The Nets now become a viable spot for a free agent acquisition in the next year or so. If they can bring in another max player and lock up Deron with an extension, they've put themselves in a contending position that was impossible without a deal of this nature.

Favors hasn't done jackshit and hasn't really given much indication he will. He's only 19? So is DeMarcus Cousins.

I just doubt after the new CBA is in place that the Nets will have the cap space for another max deal. I could be wrong, but even if they do who will be available? In 3 years I see this trade being much better for the Jazz.

nets got the best player in the deal now its a matter of keeping him...according to the trade deal, williams never signed an extension so he could possibly end up on the knicks in 2012...but NJ also will have the most available money to offer williams in hopes of resigning him...i still say nets got the better deal and landed a better player then carmelo for a cheaper price...nets can also maybe sell a few more tickets this year and possibly attract free agents for next year

Its the New NBA if your in a small market just trade the guy before you end up like Denver or Cleveland
Here's Utah's thinking (according to me)

Post Lebendict Arnold - "fuck this we're not letting Williams get to the end of his contract, he commits or he gets traded, we don't wanna end up like Cleveland"
Post start of Carmelo Sage - "fuck this we're not letting Williams go into his last year, when he's clearly going to demand a trade to a team with nothing to give us, We're not gonna end up like Denver"

The Nets have plenty of money available in the upcoming years. This trade makes the Nets at least considerable to free agents.

I've already given my thoughts on Favors. As for the draft picks, NJ has 5 in the next two years. The ones they traded are their own pick for this year and Golden State's 1st rounder in 2012 (top 7 protected).

The weakness of this year's draft has been well documented and although the Nets will likely have a high pick, this is Deron Williams we're talking about here.

The Nets still have the Lakers first round draft pick this year. They also have Houston (top 14 protected) and their own first rounders in 2012.

Williams is an elite player. The Nets got by far the best player in this deal and it isn't even close.

Good article on SI by Ian Thomsen where he is basically saying all of these teams are trying to stock up on elite talent now, because as of July 1st, the CBA expires and the small market owners will get their revenge.

I think that there is a strong chance the the NBA lockout goes into next regular season.
