Derrick "LLL" Green (RB ttun transfer to TCU)

I think Green is a Buckeye lean big time. PSU was up pretty high on his list until their tragic melt down and defcon one status. I can see him pulling the trigger in early 2012 when a coach is named and all issues are behind us. Maybe around Junior day.

When judging a back you have to look at the level of competition.
Dunn plays in a tough conference.
Ball? Not as tough a conference.
Green?

Pretty uninformed post here:

Have you ever seen the out of conference schedule DeSales puts together?
And they only play 2 conference games; St Charles, Watterson

After watching Green and DeVeon Smith, I'm telling you guys that Smith is the better player. I really hope that Green goes elsewhere and that we snag Smith. I really don't think we would regret it.

With the knowledge that the coaches have seen both players in person at camp, I am comfortable with who they target and pursue.

Both players are clearly very good and Ohio State wouldn't be in a bad position with either of them.

I wish I had more hair ...and money ...and...but wadda ya gonna do? He is who he is and, according to tOSU staff who've worked him out, he's very, very good.

The best RB I ever saw was Jim Brown, hardly a speed back, but pretty good nonetheless. Not saying Green's the next Jim Brown ...just sayin'. Speed ain't everything.

I agree, he's probably a 4.6-4.65, wish he was a 4.45-4.5.

And to buckeye86, I don't think Green will be bad, just think Smith will be better. Hope we ge both.

At this admittedly early stage the staffs from Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Arkansas, Wisconsin, UNC, South Carloina, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, WVU and all the other schools that have offered Green and not Smith would disagree with you..

That's 100% fine with me. It's because of the speed. I think Smith will be better, only time will tell.

Work ethic, family support, ability to adjust to college life, attitude, willingness to listen, avoiding injuries and staying healthy, ability to learn plays and blocking schemes, ability to bounce back after setbacks, staying out of trouble off of the field.

There are a million intangibles that determine whether or not a player will be successful at the next level that are exponentially more important than something like speed.

Unfortunately, no one learns any of these things by simply watching a player on film, making speculation about who will or will not be better based on watching game film and observing one player is 'faster' than another somewhat useless.

The coaches get a small glimpse of a players attitude, work ethic and other intangibles when they interact with them and their families in person, putting them in a better position than simply watching film.

Bottom line, determining who will be better at the next level is next to impossible (5-stars bust and NFL first round busts happen every year at a high rate), and determining who is faster is way down on the list of things that should be factored in.

How many players were faster than Boom Herron coming out of High School?

How many players were significantly better in almost every physical category than Dane Sanzenbacher coming out of High School?

There's a reason Smiths team went udefeated this season, but still struggled to even reach the playoffs: weak schedule. I've watched him play numerous times the last 2 seasons and lost count of how many times he got run down by Lb's and Db's that wont ever sniff D3.Stats look good but don't tell the whole story. I'm just not seeing him as a contributer in Columbus.

Derrick Green , on the other hand........
