Game Thread Game One: Ohio State 38, Youngstown St. 6 (final)

the '04 RBs would be on the scout team this year. they would not see the field once.

All the more reason to be concerned about the OL and Jim Bollman. With these backs it has to be the line and with this much experience on the line it has to be the coaching.

I persoanly am going to wait untill after the UW game to even start to guess at where we stand in the run game. I'm not so sure it wasn't the predictability of the play calling and the stated indifference of C Wells that was the issue. Saine didn't have any bigg issues running.

I'm thinking the lesson to be learned is that the big boys can't just line up against the lesser teams, tell them whats coming and just out man them anymore. 9 men in the box is 9 men in the box.

1-AA/MAC type teams have athletes now that they just didn't have 15-20 years ago. Overall amount of talented players coming out of HS and scholarship restrictions at work.

I am not even going to read this entire thread. I will assume it goes something like this:

Our O line sucks....whine whine whine.

Beanie sucks...whine whine whine.

Fire Bollman...whine whine whine.

Give it time fellas. Our offense had about three different plays and two different formations on Saturday. We rotated linemen, rbs and wrs. And we still put up 400+ on YSU. That's not Louiville numbers but I am almost certain that wasn't the goal either. We have a GREAT set of backs and you better start to appreciate them. We aren't going to beat ANYONE by 50 this year and that's ok. We just need to beat them and this team can do it. Look, USC lost two games last year trying to score 70 every game. JT is different, he is a tight poker player winning the battles he needs to so that he can win the war.

Wrong message board... you're thinking of Bucknuts or Scout.com (at least how they used to be... haven't been to either one in a long while). You won't see much of that talk on here.

Try reading the thread, what a fucking stupid comment. Your new, not trying to be a dick.. but read the thread before saying stuff like this. Especially here at BP..

Can someone explain one thing to me... Why do we put the RB in motion on some plays and send him out as a WR...

We always do this, and the RB has never been thrown to, nor does he seem to run a real route (watch Beanie from the YSU game).. Im guessing it's just a decoy method... but I saw in the Florida game, we tried to do this, and the Gators basically left that man open and paid no attention to him cause they knew he wasnt part of the play.. thus allowing another defender to focus on the real WRs.. I think someone on their team or staff even noted that..

I dunno, im probably just nitpicking.. but everytime i see Mo Wells or Beanie lined up at WR I just dont understand why we do it..

I know that Mo Wells had a ball thrown to him.. Not sure if he was lined up wide as you ask, or out of the backfield, but I know it happened.

I suppose a long term answer would be, setting something up for later. I would hope OSU is aware of trends that us message board idiots can see, and will exploit that advantage at the right moment later... say send Wells out wide in the Michigan game... Michigan knows Wells isn't getting the ball.. and then.. well.. he does.

Great question. Look at the 2006 Troy Smith highlight videos on youtube and there is nearly always a RB open in the flat, typically uncovered. I suppose you could argue that because they are highlights he either threw downfield or scrambled.

To the coaches out there, what kind of plays are available out of the "Law Firm" formation (both Wells' in the backfield with Boeckman). Mo caught a pass for a big gain but can you do like a read option with that or do you keep the other RB in to block?
