Greatest Rock Singer...

I prefer an different style of metal. I have listened to Opeth before and they are definitely talented, just not to the intensity as I have with BTBAM. I knew I'd catch some shit from you, I just can't objectively compare the singers when I've heard Tommy Rogers from the beginning. I have respect for the guy because of how far he's come. Opeth and BTBAM are just different styles in the closely related genre. Different time periods really too, which plays to a difference in musical styles. The revolving door of Opeth members I find interesting. We could field a god damn football team with all of em.

They still play an awesome live show that every fan of metal should see. :p

I saw them once.. it was a while ago. I was working at the venue.

If you can ever get a gig at Ozzfest, Family Values, etc (even if you hate those).. do it once. You have a backstage pass which is good for many things. You get many offers from people (use your imagination), you get to meet people, etc. I say do it once because it's mostly a terrible experience for many reasons, but it has its perks.

Will never go to an Ozzfest, and would discourage anyone else from doing so too.

Fuck Sharon Osbourne.

I went to the '95 Ozzfest. This was before it was the festival it is now. The only reason I call it that was because the T-Shirt I got at the show said it, but the tickets didn't and nothing else said it, either.

Anyway, it was a great show. The lineup was:

Ozzy
Danzig
Sepultura
Biohazard

During Danzig's set, he said something like, "You all remember that band I used to be in?" before blasting into Die, Die my Darling and Halloween. (I can't remember if it was I or II. I think II.) During Ozzy's set, he asked the same question, then everyone hears coughing blasting through the speakers that signals the beginning of Sweet Leaf. It was a good show.

Then it probably wasn't nearly as good as it would be today. Their older stuff is somewhat unpolished, though the talent was there. The band has come a long way. Last show I saw was when their latest album came out. They played the whole thing, beginning to end, just like the album. 1:04 of straight melodic metal greatness. In Hell at the Masq in Atlanta, holds probably, pushing it, 500 people or so. Upstairs (heaven) a dude from ICP was playing, WTF? BTBAM has sold out Heaven in the Masq and that holds 1,000+. Didn't understand, but it was one hell of a performance.

For the Janis "haters", I place great importance on originality. There are a bunch of people that might not be the best, but they were the first. That counts for a lot in my book.

Dylan
Janis
David Bryne
Mick Jagger

Justa few off the top of my head that were not the greatist singers, but they were unique.

Maynard James Keenan. Can do it all: Croon, harmonize, scream and howl. Many try to immitate him, but can't come close.

Old school: James Douglas Morrison.

Fuck, nevermind... I meant Fred Durst.

Maynard James Keenan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Although originally from Ohio, Keenan spent his high school and college years in Michigan"

Fuckin traitor. :shake:

If we're opening it up to reggae, gotta mention Jimmy Cliff and Toots Hibberd. Also, the original lineup of the Wailers, with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, was some of the best ensemble singing ever. There's a special edition of Catch A Fire which has the original master tapes, before they added overdubs in England, it really brings out the vocals.
