Never forgive, never forget.

I still want a pound of flesh for Darkest Day I and II if that gives you any idea.

I can't express in words the retribution I feel is neccessary for the Texas pre game insult.

Exactly what I thought when I saw this same type of thing on a casual flip to sportscenter in the evening on my way from syndicated reruns of seinfeld and simpsons.

what.the.fuck?!?!?

They were doing it for the yankees and it was the stupidest thing I have ever seen. The FAKE yankees GM was making shit up about who the yankees were planning on pursuing and how they planned on negotiating with certain players? WTF?!?!?! I was thinking about how pissed I'd be if I were the yankees GM. I woulda had stienbrenner get on the phone with ESPN and tell them to cut the plug immediately. Ridiculous.

I cannot agree more with BN27. There is a way to cover sports, and then there is a way to make me want to throw up. I don't watch ESPN anymore for the same reason I've stopped watcing CNN, FOX, and MSNBC for regular cable news... not because they raked the bucks over the coals, but more because they lack any integrity as journalists and their programming is genuinely not interesting to me. If I'm watching the news, I want to know exactly what is going into the new energy bill, not who's outside the courtroom at the micheal jackson trial. If I'm watching sports, I want a breakdown of the offenses and defenses in the SEC and big10 to know why scoring is up in the big ten and down in the SEC this year (great thread by the way), not what TO ate last night for dinner.

As I read this thread, ESPN is showing a "Simulated Press Conference" for the LA Dodgers.

What. the. fuck?

This is the reason I dislike ESPN. Not because they attacked OSU.....because they suck as a sports channel. Who the hell cares about a simulated press conference? Who needs to hear TO's minute by minute schedule? I want to watch sports highlights......I don't want a 24 hour watch on Barry Bonds.

Why should I be "over" ESPN when they haven't stopped sucking ass as a sports channel?

Why should any of us "get over" ESPN?

I should forget the whole Clarett thing because they didn't achieve their goal of getting the football program on probation?

Great logic: 'Oh, you tried to shoot me but you missed .. no harm, no foul. I forgive you.'

In the Northwestern game thread, Jeffcat made post ripping ESPN because Jim Donnan (or one of his proofers) said we have played Wisconsin this year. It seems that folks will go out of their way to point out even the most mundane of errors on their part and blow them out of proportion. In fact, Jeffcat's post was originally a thread he started entitled "ESPN in the gutter again", which was then merged into the NW game thread. When I saw the pre-merged thread title, I thought "Now what?". And then I saw that being in the gutter meant a typo, well, I think you get the picture.

I'm not advocating that anyone forgive and forget. I think it's just time to quit bringing up every little instance of them making an error or doing something we aren't in 100% agreement with.

I personally agree that letting this fester in us hurts us a lot more than the craplogs at ESPiN, but I understand the temptation to point out every little mistake, because there is that primal feeling of vindication every time someone there makes a stupid mistake, because of how hard they latched on to the one-sided Clarett fiasco.

Example used already: Alberts wrote a somewhat glowing review of Ohio State after 2002, after he had said we sucked for basically all of 2002 and then said we would get destroyed by Miami...now, do I believe he just hated everything about Ohio State? No, I think he decided who he thought was going to win at the beginning of the season, and it wasn't us, so he kept beating it in that we would lose eventually...which we didn't. So, on the flip side, did he write what he wrote for our benefit? Of course not, he was covering his own ass. With most of the commentators and whatever, there's no conspiracy, but by the same token they haven't been offering any olive branves our way for our benefit, either.

The Clarett thing was anti-Ohio State, but not because the network was anti-Ohio State, if that makes any sense. What I mean is that they would have latched onto any story about any school that suddenly started winning national championships after being away from it for so many years. What still bothers me the most is how many opportunities the network had to go after Bawby, Jimmy Johnson and Erickson at Miami, Phillips and Osborne at Nebraska...and they passed on them all. I do think the culture of the network has changed dramatically over the past 10 years or so (as mentioned, keeping Screaming A-hole Smith and getting rid of Aldridge, hiring Michael "I can't say more than 2 words of English" Irvin, etc.) and the story about Ohio State probably reflects a transition to gotcha journalism and reality TV, which are fairly recent phemonea.

The Desmond Howard/Nick Le-fag thing was completely unforgivable under any circumstances, and I also blame our people for allowing them to even attempt that in any context. And the more that we don't see the same things with former Auburn players at Alabama and former Oklahoma players at Texas, the more pissed about that one I still get.

ESPN is a crappy network, plain and simple...if there is a game on, I'll watch it, but until they get people in the studio who know their ass from a hole in the ground, I'll still check my e-mail at halftime.

Killjoy.

I agree, actually. I"ve done it too, of course, "Andre Ware said "Donte Whiticker" But, I didn't conclude ESPN has it out for OSU.

Mili: "I think it's just time to quit bringing up every little instance of them making an error or doing something we aren't in 100% agreement with."

Agreed. I personally didn't do that in the first place.

Bucklion: "Example used already: Alberts wrote a somewhat glowing review of Ohio State after 2002, after he had said we sucked for basically all of 2002 and then said we would get destroyed by Miami"

I think people have to get off the Trev thing. Trev tried to make himself the brash, bad-boy of analysts, and he used Ohio State to do it. As short & unspectacular as Trev's career was, would it be even half of that if his war of words with the Buckeye fans in 2002 didn't happen? I don't think so.

I don't think Trev ever had anything personal against us. Mark May, on the other hand, certainly does. The day after we won the Fiesta Bowl, Trev admitted he was wrong, and gave the Bucks all the credit in the world.

"ESPN is a crappy network, plain and simple...if there is a game on, I'll watch it, but until they get people in the studio who know their ass from a hole in the ground, I'll still check my e-mail at halftime."

Agreed. ESPN is garbage. They should use their endless amounts of money to cover sports, but instead we get horrible movies like "3" or "Hustle," awful sports-related reality shows, and (Insert Name of Game Show here) hosted by Stuart Scott.

But College Gameday is still a great show. And Corso, Fowler, and Captain Kirk are the best group of CFB analysts out there. I think their coverage of CFB is outstanding, in that regard.

No, you didn't say to forgive or forget Mili, and I don't think anyone said you did, big guy.

I started this as a separate thread just so it would not be connected with anyone but rather start a conversation on BP.

I think you were right Mili to point out that maybe it is time to stop being hypersensitive about them. Doesn't mean forgive or forget but rather just start to move on.

I have learned that if we keep expressing anger toward them, then we simply magnify the damage that they did to us. We not only survived them, we prospered and landed top recruiting classes.

I think I have been guilty of still expressing too much anger toward them and I think I have learned from this thread that people feel the same anger that I do but don't wear it on their sleeves so much. I think that is a much wiser response than I have shown and I intend to stop being so aggressive.

We know what they are and who they are and we know what they are in business for. I think this thread has taught me to begin to move on without forgetting that.

I respect Steve19 very much, but for one Buck, I don't give espin any slack over their incessent proding and humiliation of our Ohio State football program through lies, innuendo and false reporting. They are first of all a sport entertainment company, and while Shipiro was there directing the blasts, they were bent upon skewing our Bucks using a talented ex-Buckeye who possessed no integrity.

AG resigned, and he is an honorable man who did not deserve humiliation.

Many people across the country believe much of espin's bullshit about our Bucks.

Other than that, espin is a first-rate garbage pit.
