NEW YORK -- Tick tock, tick tock.
The wait is on for Joe Torre and his Yankees players, a fiercely loyal bunch.
Nearly everyone in New York wanted to know Tuesday whether owner George Steinbrenner will keep his longtime manager or let him go after 12 straight playoff appearances.
No answers yet.
"Have some patience. Things take time. There will be a process and we'll work through that, and it will lead us where it leads us," general manager Brian Cashman said. "My speculation is I'm not going to have anything to report in the next couple of days."

Yankees put off meetings to decide Torre's future until next week
NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees put off their meetings on Joe Torre's future until next week.
The meetings are likely to start Monday night or Tuesday, and they probably will be held at the team's spring training complex in Tampa, Fla.
Torre will not be asked to attend the start of the session, when owner George Steinbrenner, his sons and top aides will discuss whether to bring the manager back for a 13th season -- which would be the longest run for a baseball manager in New York since Joe McCarthy was in the Yankees' dugout from 1931-46.

No Word On Torre's Future Yet
TAMPA, Fla. -- Joe Torre's future with the New York Yankees remained unclear Tuesday after team officials gathered at the home of owner George Steinbrenner to debate whether the manager should return for a 13th season.
"The meetings are adjourned for tonight," spokesman Howard Rubenstein said shortly after the session ended about 4 p.m. "There have been no decisions made, nor will there be any comment today. The meetings will resume tomorrow."
