Posluszny, winner of the Butkus Award as the country's top linebacker, partially tore two ligaments in his right knee late in the fourth quarter of the Nittany Lions' 26-23 triple overtime win over Florida State in the Orange Bowl last week.
Team doctors said Posluszny will need six to eight weeks of rehabilitation. He most likely will be ready when spring practice starts in late March.
His return will ease coach Joe Paterno's makeover on defense, which will lose seven senior starters.

Do these kids realize that if they would of stayed an extra year they could have a chance to move into the first round b/c of all the people going this year, making the class next year not quite as strong.

Also in a earlier post it said Ko Simpson is going to go pro, he is only a soph., but he redshirted. That is crazy even know he is very good.

USC running back LenDale White and offensive tackle Winston Justice are expected to announce sometime this week they're entering the NFL draft, the Los Angeles Daily News reported Tuesday.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Steve Smith is expected to return for his senior season, the newspaper reported.
White skipped a Monday meeting with USC coach Pete Carroll, the Daily News reported.

Tailback LenDale White is also expected to make himself available for the draft after skipping a meeting with USC coach Pete Carroll on Monday.
Carroll tried to convince Justice, a junior, to return, but the tackle is expected to leave, the newspaper reported.

"I'll make an announcement around the end of the week," Justice said, the Daily News reported.
Meanwhile, Smith told Carroll he would come back, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources. Smith apparently told former USC receiver Mike Williams he was projected to go in the third round of the draft, the newspaper reported.
"I'll talk to my family and make an announcement," Smith said, the Daily News reported. "Definitely, what the NFL said was important. They talked about how guys improve that come back."

A lot has happened since our last update and most of it has been surprising. Marginal underclassmen who project as late round picks or worse have decided to make the jump to the NFL. What is causing a near record number of juniors to pin their hopes on next April's draft?
</TD></TR><TR><TD colSpan=3>
Two more North Carolina State juniors are out the door and to the NFL. Offensive tackle Derek Morris is set to leave even though the advisory committee projected him as late as the fifth round. Defensive tackle John McCargo is also leaving though he missed the final five games of the season with a broken foot. Considered the most consistent defensive lineman for the Wolfpack, McCargo could slide into the late part of the draft's first day if healthy.
TCU receiver\return specialist Cory Rogers declared for the draft late yesterday. The game breaking wide out leaves TCU after tying Mike Renfro's school-record 17 career touchdown catches. A dynamic return-man, he averaged 30.3-yards on 17 kick returns, bringing two back for touchdowns. Rogers also averaged 15.3 yards on 19 punt returns. A tall slim wide out, Rogers is someone we spoke at length about during our pre-season report on the Horned Frogs yet is not a prospect we feel is NFL ready.
Derrick Martin, a cornerback prospect from Wyoming with loads of upside, has also declared for the draft. A second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection as a sophomore, Martin's play was uninspired last season and many scouts were surprised the junior left for the draft. Martin himself admitted '05 was a down year telling reporters, “the reason I didn’t play well this past year was because I took a few plays off. I had a few injuries, stuff like that.”
Receiver D.J. Smith of Idaho opted to forego his senior season and is making himself available for the NFL draft. Citing family concerns as the reason for leaving, Smith caught 67 passes for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns last year. A second team All-WAC player, he set an UI record for most receiving yards in a game with 269 on 11 catches against UNLV last September 10th.
One who won't be entering the draft is Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny. Winner of the Butkus Award as the country's top linebacker, Posluszny partially tore two ligaments in his right knee during the Nittany Lions triple overtime victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl. He will need six to eight weeks of rehabilitation but could be ready when spring practice starts in late March.
One league source told us to expect the flood gates to open soon as the NFL expects a record number of underclassmen, most of whom will not be drafted, to enter next April's selection process.
The cause of this?
The speculative "rookie-salary cap" rumored to be a part of the next collective bargaining agreement between the league and the NFLPA. Sources have told us some agents are telling underclassmen it is in their best interest to leave for the NFL now, before a new CBA is agreed upon. The reason being a "rookie salary cap" would restrict their earning capacity during the early years.
The problem is their is no rookie salary cap seriously being considered. While the present CBA designates each team a rookie-pool to sign first year players, sources have told us their is no plan to implement a rookie salary cap.

Source: USC's White to declare for NFL Draft
ESPN.com news services

Southern Cal might be losing both its Thunder and its Lightning.

Running back LenDale White will declare for the NFL Draft on Wednesday, a person close to White told ESPN's Joe Schad on Tuesday night. White was expected to make the announcement during an interview on ESPNEWS.

White, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound junior, could be the third major offensive weapon to leave USC for the NFL this year, following the departure of quarterback Matt Leinart. Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush has not officially declared his intention to enter the NFL Draft, but met with a prospective agent Monday.

White finished the 2005 season with 1,302 yards on 197 carries, including 124 yards on 20 carries in the Trojans' 41-38 Rose Bowl loss to Texas. In his three-year career, White had 541 carries for 3,159 yards.

I think White leaving is a good choice for him. He has to have a favorable draft status to put up the numbers he did while playing second fiddle to Bush this season. The risk of injury probably weighed on him, but I'm willing to bet just as much of this decision was the fact that there may be a sizable drop-off in talent @ USC already and that his draft status could be negatively impacted by a poor season by the team (poor in a sense relative to the last 2-3 years).

USC is really seeing a lot of departures, but they were fortunate last year when Leinart decided to return.

DENVER (AP) -- Southern Cal running back LenDale White declared himself eligible for the NFL draft Wednesday, saying he had accomplished everything he wanted to for the Trojans.
White said the decision was difficult. "I wouldn't say it was a slam dunk" to leave USC, he said.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound junior leaves USC as the school's career leader with 57 touchdowns. He had 541 carries for 3,159 yards in three seasons, during which the Trojans won two national championships.

He scored three touchdowns in USC's 41-38 Rose Bowl loss to Texas last week.

White, who is from Denver, said he consulted with his cousin, former Colorado point guard Chauncey Billups, now in the NBA. White said Billups told him to "go with your heart." Fellow Trojans tailback Reggie Bush, who won the Heisman Trophy and will announce his plans Thursday in Los Angeles, offered his teammate the same advice.

Virginia LB leaves early

Virginia linebacker Kai Parham will skip his senior season to enter the NFL draft.
Who?

Thank goodness the 2006 Draft can proceed as scheduled with the nation's 14th best inside linebacker finally declaring himself eligible for free agency. :roll2:

Reading more and more of these draft declarations, I feel really bad for a lot of these young men. They're getting some awful career advice.
