LB Marcus Freeman (HC Notre Dame, Constant Backtracker)

ND has some unique qualities that appeal to some people, THAT you could say with a straight face to any recruit.

The ability to win a NC? That's the big ND difference, unique to only ND? You are making a fool of yourself. There are about a dozen schools that could get ahead of ND in that hypothetical line.

To even win a NC you have to play another team in the title game, after a playoff with 3 other teams who all have the opportunity as much as you do... so that statement was just nonsensical.

I still think this is mostly growing pains for Marcus and he'll turn out to be a very good HC. But maybe a few more years learning as an elite DC or a promising HC at a lower tier school would save him some of the pain he's going to go through growing into this role.

I thought some of his first comments were overblown re: Columbus/OSU.

This one was just plumb stupid.
I assume he meant to add some additional thoughts about an opportunity no one else can offer to compete for championships while getting an elite education (or not competing in a conference)… or something along those lines, but the second part obviously didn’t make it out. The idea is nonsensical but very likely incomplete and with the added context would be less stupid and more obnoxiously arrogant.

Obnoxiously arrogant would fit the audience, so I don’t doubt that’s what he’s going for.

Whatever. I don’t begrudge him but won’t root for him. Is what it is at this point. Buckeye great turned enemy - at least temporarily.

If we really want to be petty I think it’s a pretty big stretch to call him a Buckeye “great.” Two-time second team all-conference makes you a Buckeye solid starter, in my opinion.

What am I missing here? He clearly didn't say "come to ND if you want to win National championships". That was the only part that made it to the quote in the tweet but the video embedded with his actual comments clearly said three things as the reason to come to ND:

1) win national championship
2) get developed for the NFL
3) be a part of a network that will help your life after football

The second one is as debatable as the first one (and the third one might be too), but why is everyone on here acting like he flat out said come to ND to win national championships?

Freeman said, "I loved my time at Ohio State… but Notre Dame offers you something that nowhere else in the country can give you, and that’s the opportunity to win a national championship."

1) Every team in America has the opportunity to win a national championship, but an elite few have the resources to do it and the necessary experience.
2) Notre Dame is not one of those teams. They finished ranked in the top 5 only three times in the last 25 years and played for the national championship only once in a blowout loss.
3) Ohio State is one of those teams, with 2 national championships, 6 NC college football playoffs, and 15 top 5 finishes in the last 25 years.
4) Ohio State is a top 50 "Public Ivy" ranked as a peer of Notre Dame in most educational departments and offering a far broader set of majors and specialties.

Not to offend you, but he explicitly said something untrue and very stupid and implied that Notre Dame had several advantages over Ohio State that it does not.
