Most ovverrated player in college football

Both corners at LSU
wouldn't go as far to say Websters overrated but im not sure about the other guy.. Not great numbers this year with just 2 ints and 46 tackles, about as good of stats as the Thorpe winner Rodgers., but he hes got 10 or 11 career interceptions and lots of pass breakups in his career, most likely the #1 corners on most boards come draft day.. Pretty good considering he was recruited as a Receiver..

I can't believe some of these choices.

Greene? The SECs winningest QB?

Maurice Drew? I've never heard anyone hype him up. I'd say he gets exactly the attention he deserves if anything.

Jason White is one of the most overrated. I think Vince Young is as well. That kid can't throw.

Matt Grope-a-toad. Who the fuck is that? Never heard of the clown before this season. I bet nearly everyone in college football has heard about A.J. Hawk since the start of the 2003 season.

I just came back from doing a quick comparison of stats between the two. A.J. Hawk averaged 12.36 tackles per game, good for fourth in the country. Grope-a-toad isn't even listed in the NCAA rankings because he is outside of their top 32 tacklers. Grope-a-toad isn't even in the top 32 in solo tackles either, while Hawk is 25th.

As for Jason White being the most overrated, we have some serious crack being smoked here. The guy completed over 65% of his passes and had a 33/6 TD/INT ratio. His stats for the 2003 regular season were even better. He may not have been deserving of the Heisman after the KSU and Auburn post-season games, but he's still a hell of a QB.

Yeah I was probably over zealous on Webster from LSU. The snaggletooth thing with White is fucking hilarious....

Did anyone else notice that White wore a maroon shirt and yellow tie like USC colors....I guess Chess King or Merry Go Round had a sale in Norman!

Chris Rix by far, I think. I am not sure if I have seen a player preform so badly when their team really needed them to step up. Every big game it seemed was his worse game, and what was so funny is he would go out and throw for 3 tds against "Sister Mary of the Poor" and the media would fall back in love with him.

To say White is overrated you would also have to say Leinhart is overrated as well. Both are products of their systems. Obviously it does take a lot of talent to compete on the level they do but it does not hurt to have all of that talent around them. Both are good players but niether of them will light up the NFL.

The most overrated, over-hyped player this year was Justin Zwick. Period.

Do you think he's going to move to his real position of safety for the bowl game to make room for the younger cornerbacks? He just doesn't have the "hips" to play db.

Who do you think we should start at QB, Smith or Zwick for the bowl?

Just playing.

To be honest, I think Jason White has had a great career given the hand he was dealt with. The guy is playing on two bum knees.

As for the most overrated, I'd have to say Mack Brown and the entire Texas program, and the Notre Dame administration and their trustees.

I think that Brad Smith (QB from Missouri) could get consideration on this list.

Kyle Orton was there until he flopped during midseason, and pretty much proved what most Buckeye fans knew.

Zack Mills

Chris Rix

MARLIN JACKSON (very overrated this season)

Simon Frasier (sorry to do this to a fellow Buckeye, but he fits the category)

T.A. McClendon

David Bass (All American Michigan lineman who was absolutely flattened by Nate Salley on a screen pass)

Disregard Chris Rix, Daddyphatsacs, is correct it has got to be T.A.
Maybe I just got so sick of hearing about this phenom at runningback the Wolfpack had because we played them the last 2 years, but honestly I don't think any player (except maybe one :shake: ) was more hyped up coming out of the 2002 season. Your right Daddyphatsacs, it is T.A.

My pick is Georgia QB David Greene. I've never seen such an average player get credit for winning so many games.
Did you see any Buckeye games in 2002 and 2003?

Most overrated this year? Chris Leak. Nice stats, but always good for a pick when his team needed him.

Mili: "As for Jason White being the most overrated, we have some serious crack being smoked here."

I tend to agree here. I would've disagreed however, had White won the Heisman this season. I think the guy is somewhere between a great and a very good college player (in the Gino Toretta, Andre Ware mode), but if he became the 2nd player ever to win the award twice it would've put him up in a pantheon (where I believe) he doesn't belong.

He should go down as one of the best Oklahoma QBs ever. He has phenomenal stats, and if you saw the Oklahoma/A&M game, you'd know that this kid is a really good player. But lets face it: he is a SIXTH year Senior. He's not a talent in the Herschel Walker/Charles Woodson/Archie Griffin mold, where you step on the field and take over the game from Day One of your Freshman year all the way to your Senior season.

And to be honest, I think that's why a lot of people didn't vote for him: because he's not an all-timer, and winning it this year (again) would make him one. He had better stats than Leinhart, HE GOT ROBBED THIS YEAR!

spraguezilla: "Chris Rix by far, I think."

Rix can't make this list. Nobody even considers him a good player. You have to be 'Rated' before you can be 'Overrated.' He was benched this season, and its not like he made an All-America team or something. Its like saying Steve Bellisari is an "Overrated" QB.

IronBuckI: "Did you see any Buckeye games in 2002 and 2003?"

Dude, Captain Craig ain't overrated. Nobody ever called him a gunslinging QB. He was a winner, a QB on a National Title team, and got treated as such by the media. That's not getting 'Over-hyped' at all. Krenzel is a much better QB than guys with gawdier stats than he had: Gino Toretta, David Klingler, Danny Wuerffel, to name a few.

"Most overrated this year? Chris Leak. Nice stats, but always good for a pick when his team needed him."

I can buy this, but I'd give Leak another year before I'd classify him as such. He's still a kid, and I think he'll be a helluva QB (maybe a Heisman winner) before its all said and done. But as of right now, he's not one of the top QBs, for sure.

Buckeyeskickbuttocks: "How many times did you hear all about Craig's acedemic prowess? Talk about hype."

So they hyped up his smarts. Big deal. They overrated his academics? They should: he's a really smart and bright kid with a big future as a doctor ahead of him.

daddyphatsacs: "Not to say that Krenzel was hyped up, but he did get the cover of the 2003 college football preview for S.I."

Um, Ohio State was their pre-season # 1. So who else on the team should've gotten the cover? The only other option was a SUSPENDED Maurice Clarett.
