Myron Rolle (Future Surgeon)

Let me say this, while I have no love for FSU and Bobby Bowden specifically, Myron Rolle is one great kid. He is a true scholar athlete, and a class act.

Like Warrick Dunn, one of my favorite kids of all time - no matter what college he played for (Dunn is right up there with Danny W.) - Rolle is a wonderful ambassador for FSU, and someone I wish UF had turned from the dark side.

Whether he'll ever tackle Tim is another story:biggrin:

I didn't say anything about Geno Hayes......

In truthfulness, Myron's athletic career hasn't been as impactful as most thought it would be. He is an amazing ambassador for the University. He should also probably be playing OLB. It doesn't matter though, FSU's football team has become beyond sad....at this point Mickey is probably asking players to raise hands when he names a psoition they want to play.

An even bigger joke in all of this, is that FSU's defense is rated as one of the best in the new NCAA...EPIC LOLZ

By the way, Myron came to FSU strictly for the new medical facaility that was put in. As a graduate, I'm a bit embarrased I don't know more about it, but it looked impressive.

Congrats to Myron for doing everything right - on and off the field. Truly a great young, student athlete - I wish there were more like him.

FSU's Rolle has eyes on NFL, Rhodes scholarship - The Bonus - SI.com

During the Wake Forest game today, they said that he has been nominated. Interestingly enough, when he was asked if he would go pro or go Rhodes, he said, "That's the million dollar question, but I'm leaning towards Oxford".

Quite the scholar.

I haven't followed Rolle as much as I would have thought...I guess because FSU has (sadly to me) become an afterthought. Having said that, does Rolle have a legit shot at playing on Sunday based upon what he's shown thus far?

Good to see that he's projected in the first round by many. He's done everything right, and I'd like to see it all pay off for him. Great kid. Wish he were in Columbus.
FSU has so little, let them keep one of the few glimmers of greatness they have left :p

Get drafted and make your millions...you could then afford to pay your own way through Oxford later if you desire and still have a boat-load of money left.

Not that I disagree at all, but I'm sure its much more about the prestige of being a Rhodes Scholar than just getting a scholarship to study at Oxford.

FSU's Myron Rolle is choosing Rhode Scholar interview over game. - Stewart Mandel - SI.com
FSU's Rolle choosing Rhodes interview over Maryland game

Myron Rolle, who has a 3.75 GPA in premed, was named a Rhodes Scholar finalist
Rolle has to be in Birmingham on Nov. 22; FSU plays at Maryland on the same day
If the game is at night, FSU will petition the NCAA to fly him in for second half
When 6-2 Florida State visits 6-2 Maryland on Nov. 22, there's a decent chance the game could decide the ACC's Atlantic Division. Unfortunately for the 'Noles, they may be without one of their top defensive players.
This may be the rare occasion where that's considered a good thing.
Last summer, I wrote a feature about Florida State safety Myron Rolle, an accomplished student-athlete who was applying for the Rhodes Scholarship, the most prestigious academic honor an American undergraduate can receive. Each year, the Rhodes Trust affords 32 students from across the country the opportunity to study at England's Oxford University. It is believed that no major-level football player has won the award since 1985.
Upon returning home from the Seminoles' 31-28 loss at Georgia Tech last Saturday night, Rolle, a 3.75 pre-med student who finished his undergrad degree in two-and-a-half years, received an e-mail notifying him that he'd been named a Rhodes finalist.
"I was disappointed about losing the [Georgia Tech] game," said Rolle, "but the news about the Rhodes Scholarship lifted my spirits."
There's only one downside to his achievement. In the final step of what has already been an extensive application process, Rolle must appear in Birmingham, Ala., to interview before the Rhodes selection committee. Both the interview and subsequent announcement of the winners will take place on Nov. 22 -- the day of the Maryland game.
