and just like when scUM had a huge showdown looming the week after App State with Oregon, Ohio State is foolish to take them this lightly.

Go out, be efficient, scuttle the Navy and tackle well. That's all that can be asked.

Don't ever compare tOSU to TSUN again. kthx

Losses to teams who haven't ended up playing in a BCS bowl since 2005: 0

Unless Navy is going BCS bowling this year, I'm not worried.

Replacing a bunch of starters on Defense against an offense which is defeated by assignment football should always be a worry.

I'm not worried that they'll lose - I AM worried that the defense won't be ready to rock. The offense will be fine against Navy. It's the D I'm worried about.

I like the cocky attitude. We are The Ohio State University, why should we not expect to beat the living shit out of Navy? This isn't the New England Patriots. We're going to role these guys and gain momentum for September 12th at 8pm on the banks of the Olentangy.:oh:

If our offense is......ugly then a time consuming running game will make us look bad. If we score a couple TDs early we could go to cruise control like Tress does. We can't fart around running the ball only.
If...............

Pete Fiutak makes a very strong case that Navy does the most with the least, year-in and year-out. Incidentally, he also wrote a convincing piece suggesting that a certain other golden-helmeted team consistently does the least with the most. Ironically, Navy beat that other team in the not-too-distant-past. HINT

Q: Which program perennially does the most with less?

A: And it's not even close. No one, no one, comes close to doing more with less than Navy and Air Force. Army has struggled, so it doesn't get thrown under the umbrella of military teams.

It takes a different type of player to go to those schools and play for those teams, and because discipline is part of the being at Air Force or Navy, running the style of offenses they run is possible with less talented players. The defenses tend to get by on want-to and motor. When have you ever seen a game played by one of the service academies when there wasn't 100% all-out effort?

Because of the military precision involved in running the Air Force and Navy attacks over and over and over again, it's almost impossible for most teams to adequately come up with the right simulation in practice to prepare for them. But talent-wise, if you put these players in another system or on another team with a different style, they'd struggle.

Air Force tends to get a higher caliber of player than Navy, but it's not like the NFL is waiting for the Falcon players to get through their commitments. Overall, these two teams don't have a ton of players who'd start for most non-BCS teams and they're picking from such a narrow field of recruit that it's impossible to bring in players like other teams do. Even so, they go to bowls year after year after year.

That's a great post right there...AFA under DeBerry was always beating someone it seemed like (they are good now too) and Navy has been good recently as well and has avoided the bottomless plummet that Army has taken. As for ND, well, can there possibly be any argument?

Like i said this game scares me for some reason.

Scared is overreacting I think, but concern is understandable...Navy is not like starting the season against a cupcake, they will probably be the most disciplined team in week 1, and I remember Gary Barnett getting his ass handed to him by Rice several years ago when NW was supposed to be good. That said, we ain't Northwestern, and Navy is a decent squad, but nothing to get terrified about. I think it will be a good, clean, exciting game, but we will win comfortably by the 4th quarter.
