NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

I'm kind of surprised that the NCAA investigation doesn't seem to be hurting USC in recruiting. The have a pretty good list of commitments so far:

As I recall we lost out on a couple "blue chip" recruits (at least in part) due the NCAA investigation involving Maurice Clarett, etc. and potential sanctions. Has anyone heard of a recruit passing on USC due to the NCAA investigation?
What investigation? How long has it been now?

There is no current NCAA investigation. PAC-10 is investigating, and there are rumblings that the NCAA will get involved.

Thread title: NCAA investigating Reggie Bush, Dwayne Jarrett (merged all)

OK then, the thread title is just incorrect. After seeing the title I ass/u/me-d there was an actual NCAA investigation. Someone should change it to:

NCAA Should Be Investigating Reggie Bush, Dwayne Jarrett, etc......

I think it would be effectng them if, like our investigation, it was the lead story everyday on SportsCenter for three effing years, and was discussed everyday by Jim Rome, Colin Cowherd and Mike & Mike for months on end.

This "investigation" has been so "hush, hush", I had even forgotten about it.

Before any meaningful comparison can be made, you have to strip away the hyperbole.

Comparison:

Ohio State - One disgruntled former player claiming he received illegal benefits

USC - One current player proven to have accepted over $10,000 in free rent.
One former player's family proven to be living in a La Jolla house they weren't paying for, that was owned by a sports agent.

The comparisons are pretty fair I guess.

Bingo. It was the media who openly speculated about possible sanctions against OSU. There was some such talk when the last Bush story broke, but it was quickly dropped.

Minus the investigation into whether Bush's Heisman could be taken away? And the research into what was needed to vacate a BCS championship (it seems the BCS would need to pass a new rule for this)?

Here is a special report they did on it in September (5 months after the story broke).

I think what they are getting at is that the USC story is not mentioned at every pass when the Trojans are on TV or even mentioned by the media. In 2003-2004 you couldn't listen to a piece about tOSU or watch a game without hearing about MoC and possible sanctions, particularly during the Alamo Bowl when the commentators stopped commentating on the game for several minutes to discuss it. I'll admit it leaves me a little bitter.

1. The Alamo Bowl came right after the Troy Smith revelation

2. I've heard the Bush stuff in every game I've watched.
