Operation Chaos mode - BCS Title game contenders

So to say that OSU would have had no chance is not completely valid. I am not saying OSU WOULD have made it but it isn't straight fact that OSU would have been left out. There is a reason OSU made it back to 7 in the human polls. With the Purdue loss we could have still been in 4th-5th. It makes us feel better to say we would have been left out seeing 3 valid unbeatens. We would have been valid as well though.

I was typing out that I disagree with you about OSU having had any chance but while looking at the BCS detailed standings I realized that you may actually be right. Not that OSU WOULD have made it but that there is a reasonable chance that they could have (as you mentioned).

If everyone voted Texas #2 and everyone voted OSU #3, Texas would have a 0.04 head start for 2/3 of the rating. Chances are that head start would actually be closer to 0.03 per poll as OSU would probably pick up it's share of 1sts and 2nds, but at the most OSU would only need to make up 0.08 in the computers.

Texas is currently at 0.89 in the comps and it's not out of the question at all that the computers put an undefeated OSU at 0.97 (0.96 is exactly #2).

True, but you have to remember that Texas will get a jump after the SEC championship game. The SEC champ will get 1.000 in the computers, no doubt. But Texas would likely jump ahead of the SEC loser in all the computers, giving them a boost. So unless Ohio State would have been #1 in the computers, I don't think the computers could have offset the voters if the voters would have put Texas at 2 instead of Ohio State. It sure would have been a great debate, but still one that I think we would have ended up losing, unfortunately.

The point was made that getting left out would matter for next year, and that is true. How we finished this year, and esp. how we play against Oregon will affect our preseason ranking a bunch next year.

I have to be honest.. I hope Nebraska upsets Texas.

I don't want Florida to win another Title. I don't want Bama or Saban to win a title. I'd rather Texas win it all. As between those three teams Texas is my clear favorite in terms of liking them as a "second" team to Ohio State.

But, I want them to lose to Nebraska.

And I want TCU to get absolutely destroyed by Florida or Alabama.

I actually like TCU too.. certainly more than Florida or Alabama... I just want this mid major nightmare to be over more.

True. I'll be curious to see where the SEC loser falls in the comps next week. I'll actually be surprised if they fall lower than #2 but we'll see. Texas just has like zero quality wins (Ok. St. #20, Neb # 26) and the comps don't care how good they've looked against the teams they're playing. But if they do fall to #3 then I'm back on your side :)

First of all Jim, we don't have SEC "losers", we have SEC "Less Winners"...:p

You are very welcome. Beating Georgia that year was pay back for y'all beating Jake the Snake in '96 and letting us meet the Noles for the Title.

I'll always love tOSU for that. Always.

Thanks for beating the l'il dawgies, and it's nice to see a Gator remember '96. Many I've encountered have short memories, or are clueless, as to how UF got the opportunity to win that title.

I think you mean the SEC is full of "losers" and it's just a battle to be the "least loser".

Right buckeye fans? Am I right right?? :osu:

But this is the main point... you made it out that OSU had ABSOLUTELY no chance at all. That isn't valid. We do not know how voters would have seen OSU with wins against USC and a big win at Purdue. As stated before... most believe the USC players let off the gas after beating us. Give USC that one win and they are in the Rose mix again. They may have played more inspired football. Bumping up the comp ranks and the human thoughts of OSU. Plus people either love or hate OSU. If they got bumped into the NCG then people WOULD watch. OSU is a polarizing team. Either you like them or you hate them. They would love to see a FLA ALA or TEX crush us. You could tell by the lack of talk about OSU when Texas didn't blow the doors off us that they were let down. Voters could have been inclined to make that happen. Plus votes would have been split even more in a 4 Big Undefeated Team scenario. And the argument that they wouldn't vote us in is actually a false premise. It has never happened. 3 top 10 BCS plus 2 9 win teams(Navy, Wisky) wins would have pushed us right in the mix. Better resume than Tex, FLa, TCU, ALA, Cincy. I think an undefeated OSU team would have made it.

Looks like OSU could have and probably would have jumped Texas after all (Texas has a 0.92 in the comps). I'm pretty sure OSU would have been at 0.96 in the computers, and Texas would be at 0.88 if OSU was ahead of them in all of the computers. It's not a given that would have happened, but there's at least a 75% chance imo an undefeated OSU is playing Bama for the championship this year.
