QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I have a hard time finding any comparisons between brees and smith..People are gasping for any comparison to make Troy seem better then he is. The Ravens aren't keeping him on the bench to [censored] off ohio state fans..That's reality.

Of course not...is anyone saying that? Flacco has shown a lot for a second year QB and he was the QB to take them to the playoffs last year. But Troy can be successful in the NFL, he just needs an opportunity to show it. Even if he never gets a legi shot, he'll always have a spot on the roster. As Cam Cameron has said, he has all the confidence in the world in Troy and thinks he could be a very good QB.

Or because they invested a 1st round pick and the $$ that comes with it in Flacco...

Fact is, Troy Smith would have been an NFL starting QB had it not been for a (freak) illness. That say's alot.

You guys are talking about Troy Smith's delivery, yet Vince f'n Young is a starting QB in the NFL.

+1

He seems to have regressed from time to time, Ravens fans themselves admit this. And No, he didn't take them to the playoffs, that honor
rests soely on their defense from a year ago.

Does that make him 1 for 3 against reeling lake erie "professional" teams?

Who are the other two? I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

I'm not sure he's regressed this year at all, and I don't know a Ravens fan who would say that. He's actually progressed a decent bit.

The hate for Flacco is amazing. He's not a bad QB, at all. Looks good for a second year guy to me.

There is no sure thing..If he was a total stud that dominated every practice..I'm sure by now he would see more playing time..That's a fact. He very well could have been benched after his 1st bad performance and flacco mania installed in the system..What if's and maybes are great, but really mean nothing.

As a Troy supporter, Flacco has shown me a lot this year. The defense isn't nearly as good, and they aren't winning as much, but their offense has been solid. There's no doubt in my mind Troy leads Baltimore to the same exact record that Flacco did last year. Flacco was a game manager and really had the ball taken out of his hands last year. This year he has proven he throws a good deep ball, has decent pocket presence, and has a huge arm.

Still think Troy would be extremely successful in that system. Troy has better pocket presence, would thrive off Ray Rice just like Flacco is, and the receiving corps is significantly better than the previous 5 years. I don't think Troy should be starting over Flacco, that is an idiotic stance, but I really hope Troy gets a shot somewhere. He can be good in the NFL...

You mean to tell me that if Troy Smith was in Flacco's shoes right now, people on here wouldn't be calling for Flacco to be named the starter? No way!

Again, with exception to maybe 1 poster, I'm not seeing anyone asking for Troy to replace Flacco. I've seen a lot of posters say they'd like to see Cleveland sign him in the off-season, and a lot of posters say they think he can be successful in the NFL. A lot of posters have stated they think Troy would be the current starter if not for a crazy illness last year...which is definately a legitamate claim. It'd be tough to bench Troy if his record was 11-5 or 12-4 from last year.

I like this post.

Shows that there is middle ground in this debate.

I still remember the few games TS started the year before Flacco came. He looked poised and in command, and his passes were crisp and accurate. He looked like an NFL QB.

The Flacco v TS debate is moot to me. I say get him out of there and to a team that can (and knows how to) use his talents.

My guess about the Flacco thing is they didn't give TS a chance after Flacco started because they didn't want a QB controversy. Understandable, but definitely a groaner.
