Relations who are of different religious beliefs and social conventions

I made two sarcastic jokes while popping in and out of the thread, the first of which was a silly picture, the second about the word choice of your post.
I offer that Josh's reply is an example of the disconnect between those who feel a need to attack(convert/save?) those who don't feel a need to believe.
You mean like ridiculing those who are too feeble to exist without our crutch?

It's the same thing, taos. Just different packaging.
I wouldn't trust them to respect my rights/beliefs if they were in power.
Clearly you don't respect ours.

You talk about the ways Christians live for the wrong reasons and motivations... how their belief systems originate from the wrong perspective. You frequently offer up alternative ways that would be better - for them and you/society. It's more than just your attempt at spreading your truth/gospel. Some is little more than denigration (backhanded or otherwise), about the "strong person" that is "well-traveled" and doesn't "need" religion as his crutch.

You can dress it up however you'd like, but it's pretty much the same thing.

This isn't directed at OCBW, because she's not doing it... nor Jake, because I really doubt he cares :p

How can I or any non-church goer trust your judgement when you just attack the idea of someone not needing to believe what you believe?
And you attack those the bring that idea up.

Who did the attacking Taos? The last on-topic post I made in this thread got your overwhelming support. Then you continued your multi-year soapbox against the crutch needed by weak religious folk, and I pointed out the irony. You pressed the issue, and here we are.

There is a disconnect in what you believe and in what I and others like me believe or don't believe. Go to church if that's what you need. I don't need that. OC and Jake don't need that. Just respect our rights.

I'm sure OC and Jake are fed up with Josh's antics as well.

OCBW is asking people to stop disrespecting her when it comes to Christianity. She has a very valid point, and sharing (whether its about your day or the gospel) is little more than a loud-mouthed quest for self-satisfaction if it isn't done with love, sensitivity and understanding. Not everyone wants to hear about your day, let alone be saved. It's not a sales pitch, it's sharing something that has changed your life. Not everyone wants to go on your new diet or wear Dr Scholls or be a christian.

Mocking someone's weak mind because they don't believe what you believe is the exact kind of attitude that OCBW is having trouble with here. The accuracy of the truth/gospel is irrelevant. OCBW might be wrong about Christ and the gospel may be true, but when it's done with so little love, the truth doesn't matter anymore. Note: I'm not saying OCBW needs to be converted, I'm saying that it becomes nothing more than hateful noise when handled wrong.

The same holds true for your belittling of other religions. You could be right that folks are misguided in their religious approach, but when you come at it that way, it removes all credibility of your message.
Just respect our rights.
You're asking us to respect you when clearly you have no respect for us, or you wouldn't ridicule our mental fortitude and reasons for our beliefs.

I believe I'm asking for the same things, josh.
I know, you just seem to be dedicated to dodging the matter of who is doing the attacking tonight.

I've addressed the common problems with Christian evangelizing. So far you haven't even respected the discussion enough to engage my posts directly.
How are you any different than OC's family?
Or Jake's good intentioned friends?
Your not.
 Keep dodging the subject taos. Your responses tonight are basically akin to "whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you"

Since I'm apparently exactly the same (would OCBW agree with you there?), you could start by pointing out the posts where I try to "convert" or "fix" wayward folks, as those friends and family did. I can quote your examples of doing exactly that tonight, if you're having trouble following what I'm saying.

What I see is just plain old intolerance for people that don't go to church. Or feel the need to. It's no coincidence that you and mike80 and bigballin have used this thread to attack me. All of you are conservative church members. And have attacked me and what I believe/don't believe in other forums.

I don't see wanting to convert me as intolerance of me. It's a simple matter of, as Josh is saying, disrespect.

I don't talk to people about religion because I don't feel it is anyone's business what faith or beliefs someone has. I will discuss it if I am asked about it and it is an actual exchange of ideas but not if it is a veiled attempt to illustrate how I am wrong and they are right.

I dislike that proselytizing and attempting to coax people to Christianity is such a large part of Christianity for so many people because it is, to me, an invasion of my own right to believe what I have decided is right.
I don't like strangers coming to my home to invite me to their church as though somehow I have never seen it and need an invite to go into a public building. I dislike finding tracts on my doorstep. I don't like the invasion of my private space by someone determined to show me the "errors of my ways."

Many Christians do NOT try to do this. Those Christians I have no problems with. I am not anti-church or anti-religion. No matter what my personal feelings are about mass organized religion, I am anti-"in your face, I'm right, you are wrong, because I love you I have every right to bug you even tho you ask me not to because I worry about your eternal soul" crap.

And that goes for any belief or opinion, not just religion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you are going to enter or join a discussion that does exchange firm opinions, I also believe you had better be ready to clearly and fully define and explain it and be willing to take criticism about it without throwing a hissy fit.

You're wrong, and that's all I have to say...and if you criticize me I'm going to throw a hissy fit
