Steve Alford (official thread)

krebs spent 14 years in columbus. starting as ticketing director, then assitant ad, then aada, then sr associate ad. he then went up to bg to be the ad there.

i wish alford luck in "the pit" 18018 people at 5314ft is a tough venue. and a really cool place for a game.

why go there. i guess my one justification is that from 1966 till 2001 unm was in the top 10 in attendance. theyve slide since then into the teens, but their women draw 11k plus. no major league sports in a good sized town.

best of luck and ill assume you wont see many top tier teams willing to go into that place if they have a decent team again...

Well I know that his dream was to take over at Indiana. I wonder if he isn't thinking that if he leaves the conference and waits a little while that he might have a better chance of becoming IU's next headcoach.

That could be a possibility.

Wow it sounds like you know a hell of a lot more about New Mexico U than I do? Do you live in the area or did you just know that info.? I knew his name sounded familiar but I kept associating him with BG not OSU. Thanks for the info.

Everyone knows about The Pit and the Lobos rabid following.

That's where Jimmy V and the Wolfpack beat Hakeen and Houston in the title game.

An admnistration that isn't interested in him sticking around...
Oh ok. Yeah you make a good point it is obvious his days were numbered. I just don't know what they are expecting to get. I'm not an Alford appologist I just don't know what they expect. I mean they haven't been that great since, is it Tom Davis, who was the former coach? Just think guys, Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa will all be looking for new coaches. Should be an interesting offseason in the Big Ten.

Tom Davis just retired from Drake and handed the job over to his son Keno.

I was unaware that Dr. Tom was still coaching.

Yeah I just thought he was a pretty decent coach. They always had tough teams when he was at Iowa. Similar to Gene Keady and Purdue back in the early 90's.

Me too. I didn't realize he was coaching I thought he was retired. Interesting name for his son though.

He's my favorite all time Buckeye and watching him take that shot from Ed Horton is something I'll never forget.
True. Those kind of moments and situations I think everyone kind of remembers where they were at that time. Kind of like the space shuttle blowing up, 9/11, or Joe Theisman injury.
