To boo or not to boo - when does it go too far?

I've always believe that under no circumstance can you boo am player who is giving effort. The only way you boo a player is if it's clear they don't care, and they wouldn't play more than a series for Ohio State if that was the case. Booing Zwick, especially after he played hurt in a bowl game, is disgusting. I know a lot of people like Troy Smith because they think he will make the offense more "exciting" but the last thing you do is come down on someone who is giving effort.

I can see booing in very specific circumstances like taking a delay of game penalty before the first play call of a series or something, which is really booing the coaches for not getting the freaking play in when they've had an entire TV timeout to do so (sadly, I was at the stadium more than once when this happened). But this is very different for booing a specific player and making them feel like they are not part of the team, which is entirely wrong.

I'm just now getting to the boards, just now getting warmed up enough to type.

This was my first ever game at Ohio Stadium. The wind chill was below freezing and I was soaked to the bone, but just being there, doing the "O-H-I-O" cheer with the fans, singing Carmen Ohio... was just a dream.

HOWEVER... this is the one thing that really bothered me - when a section started to BOO Zwick. I actually shouted, "HEY STOP THAT! HE'S A BUCKEYE!" He didn't have the best outing today, but my goodness - those boys are soaking wet (as were we all), playing full-force in icy sleeting rain, and just to have someone boo any one of them just felt like a slap in the face. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but I put myself in their shoes, and that would really have bothered me. And to make matters even more strange, I discovered Justin's dad was sitting about three rows behind and to the right of me, up in the red club seats. His dad is the superintendent of our local city schools and a pretty decent guy. I hated for him to have to hear his SON booed like that while he sat in the stands getting soaked just like we were.

The whole thing just ticked me off. I can't believe I shouted like that.

...and off topic, Maurice Clarett just got selected ot the Denver Broncos. I am in awe.

You don't "boo" a kid for trying, but not measuring up to what you want him to be.
The only possible reason I can think of to ever "boo" a player would be if he showed some sort (act) of poor sportsmanship on the field. (and then, you aren't really booing the player...you are booing the act)

just like we booed Robert Reynolds right? yeah it never happened.... thats not how you or I work. People do not BOO when our players do something dirty, they boo when they don't perform.

Strohs- Just wanted to say my head is not in my ass its in reality. You guys don't realize that Criticisim is Criticisim (spelling). Whether its booing or remarks on a web page. Name one place in this thread were I've called any one of you out, and name one place where I've said this kid didn't give 100 percent. So stop saying that I support people in the fans who do boo, and that I'm the ones doing this crap. Because I'm not.

I like both Smith/Zwick ... Prolly alittle more so with Smith because its the way its always been (a true non band wagon) if you check I never thought Smith was the backup.

As for the rookie at OSU stadium I'm glad you turned around and gave them a peice if your mind. If thats true you have balls, and you stood up for our players. However what those students/fans did is no different (regardless of what you guys say) of what these players read about themselves on here.

Another thing is this.... I think that most are holding back thier opinions because they don't wanna get those red chicklets. This is a great opportunity for any poster to get mad props for their posts for their supposive 'sticking up for a player'. lol I'm not turning my back against Zwick is what you guys have to understand but yet I'm still gett'n such hate.

I just got home from work an just logged on here and am having trouble believing what I am reading. To boo any player wearing a TOSU uniform to me is a crying shame. If you don't like what you're seeing then leave, get the hell out and don't let the gate hit you in the ass. To compound the issue, the boos were directed at Zwick???

To be honest, Justin has never been my #1 choice at QB since the day he and Troy arrived, but that's just my opinion. However, Justin got on board here real early, then promptly spent pretty much the next 9 months trying to get other potential recruits on board here. He's a good kid, a good student, and he can play some football also. Justin is simply the kind of person that you want to represent your University, and he represents it real well as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who booed him should be ashamed. Anyone who wasn't there to boo but defends this behavior is just as guilty.

Didn't the Robert Reynolds act happen in Wisconsin? The act was booed when they showed the replays. I don't remember hearing anybody condone his actions. My point is...I don't hate Reynolds for what he did, I just hate what he did. His actions were totally wrong, but he's still a Buckeye.

Booing

So Zwick stunk today! People are allowed to boo, they paid for the tickets. He was supposed to be the heir apparent to Krenzel, and so far he had laid an egg. It is nothing against Justin as a person but for someone that Geiger said was going to save the program he has done nothing. People have a right to boo.

The boo birds made me really made too. I know Zwick wasn't playing as good as most of us hoped for. But, booing him makes OSU fans look classless and it doesn't look good for future recruits. Zwick played his heart out for the team in the Alamo Bowl and we as fans should never forget that.

How about looking things over before you post them, huhhh? And that is what tOSU fans have come to expect over the years...perfection. If you say you were happy with Zwick's preformance, you are lying.
