tOSU Recruiting Discussion

In this case, it would be staffs, plural - Tressel, Fickell, and now Meyer have all passed on Kimbrough.

You're using the fact that he wasn't offered as a Soph by Coach Tressel to bolster your argument?

Interestingly enough Coombs was his recruiter when he was offered by UC (more a random tidbit than anything).

The schools he has interest in and have offered are not exactly academic juggernauts (PSU is the exception) for the most part. The 3 schools he has interest in but no offers are OSU, Notre Dame, and USC. All three of these schools have been known to turn kids away due to grades.

No one knows anything definitive about grades here but it makes you wonder.

Scout $ - FSNextTV: Ohio State Trio

5/6

Video by Scott....Video interview with Jalin Marshall, Cameron Burrows & Jayme Thompson. Video features a little trash talking between the three & several Michigan commits. Jalin also says he beat Cam on a route, but the pass was overthrown....Cam didn't agree

Archiving this here, it's a bit redundant (other than adding Howard as a 2010 snub), but goes more in depth by adding guys to the snubbed list who were offered later

Given the chatter about Urban "going national" and passing on Ohio talent, I decided to see whether that was accurate or overblown compared to Tressel.

So, I kept seeing articles about recruits various track exploits/times in their threads. Since I don?t have track background, I had no point of reference to figure out just how fast these guys are. So for fun I just gathered up the best times I could find for some of OSU's top targets in their threads and threw this together (with some times from previous players for comparison - courtesy stkoran). If anybody finds more times/mistakes, I'd be more than happy to edit them in.

I know that track speed and football speed don't always translate, but I thought it was interesting to look at since the new staff covets speed so much.

Note: I believe that Taivon Jacobs times are out of date, and I expect that his numbers have improved.

Current targets appear in bold

100 Meter Dash
Ted Ginn Jr. 10.5
Devin Smith 10.56
Lamaar Thomas 10.65
Shelton Gibson 10.67
James Quick 10.70

Chimidi Checkwa 10.76
Ezekial Elliott 11.04

110 Meter Hurdles
Ted Ginn Jr 13.40
Devon Allen 13.52
Ezekial Elliott 14.13

200 Meter Dash
James Quick 20.94
Devon Allen 21.10
Ted Ginn Jr 21.44
Shelton Gibson 21.73
Taivon Jacobs 22.01

300 Meter Hurdles
Devon Allen 36.39
Ezekial Elliot 37.52

400 Meters
Robert Smith 45.73
Ted Ginn Jr. 46.57
Taivon Jacobs 47.52

Long Jump
Chris Sanders 26-2.75
Paul Warfield 25-11.81
Devin Smith 24-7
Jalin Marshall 23-00.75

Good post. Speaking about track times, I think we need to make a call to Tyreek Hill out of Georgia. 10.19 100m and 20.14 for the 200m. That's pretty fast. I saw a little film on him and have no idea if he's a "good prospect" or not but he has speed you just can't teach.

Wow at 26+, that's absurd.

Devin Smith was also 24'7 long jump, 7'0.5 high jump, and 10.56 100. Pretty insane.

Saw Jamal Marcus has a 11.24 in the 100 this season. Pretty fast for a LB and it's his only recorded result on milesplit.com so could be even faster. Sure David Perkins is even faster than that.

Gibson has a 21.35 200 to his credit but it's indoor.

Some pretty special athletes. Interested to see how Ezekial does tomorrow at the NFTC as he doesn't play great competition.

RE: Recruits and track exploits

Brandon Saine:
100M: 10.38 (State record, 2x State Champ)
200M: 20.74 (Won a state title)
400M: ?? (Won a title in this)

He also won a national championship in the 60M.

I was wondering when someone would mention saine. That kid had wheels. Surprised no one has times for santonio holmes, anthony gonzalez or joey Galloway. Weren't they all track stars as well?
