2020 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

responding here instead of the gibbs thread since the discussion appears to be moving that way.

We don’t NEED a 2020 RB with Crowley and Chambers looking as good as they do. 1 RB would be nice, but not a necessity. Especially if OSU can get 2 RBs in 2021. And as much as top RB recruits want immediate PT,it doesn’t always happen. With or without Gibbs, Teague, Crowley, Chambers and McCall would run this offense just fine
i think that's a separate point from the one i was making. i'm not arguing against osu's running back situation going forward. you might end up being right, and i hope so, too. we might end up being fine and we might end up being great, though i don't know if it's a foregone conclusion that any of the backs on our roster will prove themselves to be a feature back like dobbins, elliott, hyde, etc.

instead, my point was more about the current lack of success from our recruiting staff when blue-chip recruits should be seeing a prime opportunity at a powerhouse. final grades aren't issued until signing day, but the current mark can be nothing else but an "f."

I see your point, and understand where you’re coming from, but that’s the crux of recruiting. We’re trying to figure out the minds of teenage boys. I can see Robinson wanting to be closer to family and committing with UT. I Can also understand Knighton wanting to be closer to home as the only factors in them not choosing OSU. But I think Alford and the staff put all of their eggs in those baskets(and for good reason) and didn’t have clear plan b plans. If the argument is solely that the staff has struck out on their top RB recruits, then yes, they have failed at that. And it is baffling that other teams can stockpile such talent at the RB position while OSU has not

100% agree that the lack of success recruiting RB is baffling. With everything they have to offer---wins, stats, opportunity, arguably the most famous RB in America recently went there, etc---it doesn't make any sense that the room isn't more impressive than it is. When Dobbins leaves---and obviously not counting who if anyone comes in---they will have in the RB room, by recruiting ranking in their class, the 11th best RB, the 26th best RB & the 11th best ATH. Something doesn't add up.

Eh, blue-chip, 5* RB commits are nice offseason victories for fans, but in my IMO, RB is a position that you can get by quite well without those ballyhooed recruits because, in any given year, there are 10-15 kids in that top-20 list that, given placement in the right system, can be stars. Who is the last 5* RB recruit tOSU landed? Bri'onte Dunn? He did nothing. Before that, it was Beanie. Antonio Pittman, Boom Herron, Carlos Hyde, Zeke, Weber, Dobbins, etc...not one 5* amongst them. I feel fine landing guys like Teague, Chambers and Crowley and have no concern about them being able to be very productive in the offense we run.

Whiff this year, I don't see it as a dire situation. But they'll need to get a couple strong commits in '21. And there's always THE PORTAL.

I’m sold on Teague which is a relief. Guy is Carlos Hyde with a half step better speed. Which is perfect for what we run, since he will see less stacked boxes because of the threat of Fields to run. Teague runs hard downhill and always falls forward.

We definitely could use an elite back in this class though. I stand by my recent prediction an elite back sees our situation and jumps on board. JK has made a lot of money this year. Teague is setting up to do the same. Money talks.....BS walks. Lotta BS out there currently.....OSU does not land in BS category. A mom and dad are going to see the $$$ signs. Patience.....the flip is coming.

RB recruiting is freaking bizarre this cycle.

You’d think somebody would see the depth chart and the product on the field and would be chomping at the bit.

That’s recruiting though.

I’m with you on that. Either the staff has decided to take a pass this cycle due to what they have in the stable or we’ll see a late flip. I’m sure that there’s plenty of eyes on what’s going on in the Woody among prospects... and in a “I want in” kinda way.

Yeah, I'd think so. Who wouldn't want some of that action that's going on in C-bus? Should have a Heisman finalist at the position and could have a back-up RB with over 1000 yards to go with it.
