2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

McGohan just committed to UC. Is the thinking that if we offer that becomes meaningless?

I would say so, it is UC...

Crystal Ball for Okunola is the U. Why is there a sudden shift?
Not sure, other than the longer his recruitment goes, the worse off it is for Miami. And I've heard he's planning on visiting for The Game. If that actually happens, then game on

Those CBs were in early July.

Things tend to change when recruits take visits/plan on taking more visits and drag it out longer.
Additionally, Miami was trending for a ton of players early in the summer and they fell out of the running for all of them.

Although it is pure speculation on my part, it seems quite likely they were promising NIL checks and it was somehow revealed that the players would never be able to cash them.

College football plumbs the depths of absurdity, and every time I think we've reached a new low, something like this happens. I love it so much.

To be clear, I don’t think they were literally writing checks to players. I do think they were making promises that became apparent over time were not possible for whatever reason (as is the rumor for many NIL promises at a lot of schools).

Absolutely no one coulda seen bogus NIL promises coming.

A couple of opinions on where we stand with 3 DEs:
Marc Givler's opinion- OSU gets Uiagalelei and one of Wilson/Keeley

Bill Kurelic's opinion-
Keeley - in checking with sources throughout the week, feeling is Ohio State has closed the gap with Alabama. Mom loved it at Ohio State.
Wilson - Ohio State/Georgia battle. Likes where Ohio State stands.
Uiagalelei - still hearing Ohio State, USC, Oregon at the top with the first two leading the way.

If we manage to get 2 of those 3, I'll be happier than a dog with 2 tails. Seems we are swinging for the fences at DE, but perfectly OK with that given the current state of affairs. Go for the best.

If this is the case I think the preference has to be for Wilson and Keeley. Uiagalelei's Dad just throws up red flags based on some of the items I have read, seemingly focused on the $$$ and not really the development piece. OSU would be the obvious choice if development was the focus with LJ.

I think that's a narrative that's been played about Big Dave, but hadn't heard anything about him with DJ at Clemson. And I wonder if because he posts actively on twitter about his son, it riles up some fans. But where has he made it solely about the $$$ and not about where his son can play early and get developed into an NFL player? And that's being a homer if we think that LJsr is the "obvious" choice for his development, especially if Oregon is one of his finalists and they just sent a lottery pick to the NFL. I want any of the 3 since they're all talented and can help. I think the dad thing will work itself out.

Fair takes, Oregon putting one kid in the first round is a far cry to what OSU has done in recent years as well as the success of them in the league. The Oregon coaching staff was not even in place for that development. So IMO it's not anything they can refer to. Unfortunately I think Keeley is going to Bama so hoping we can land the other two.

Yeah, also fair points. But I can assure you that the Oregon staff is selling him on being the next Kayvon Thibodeaux, whether they coached him or not. Just like scUM staff was selling prospects on who they developed using OSU players when Warriner was a Buckeye coach
Have some faith in LJsr, I think we can still land Keeley. Anything is possible after getting JTT

Not happy with this NIL horses**t. Adds a difficulty factor in projecting a recruit's landing spot. Instant gratification is still a thing, not long term results. (Kinda like corporate America quarterly reports). Bothers me about the 'promises' of checks that the recruits can never cash though. Guess we're too soon into this thing to see an expose writter. Maybe in a couple of years. Hope tOSU keeps plugging the long term training/results to NFL. Isn't that what college is for? To teach/train people to make their way in their chosen field of endeavor?

Better start drinking bud. You may be completely correct but it's definitely not going away. Procedures for the whole thing might actually be the best thing to do but it's not there yet.
