First quotes we've seen from Jim Joyce (courtesy of freelancer Dave Hogg who covers the Tigers on a regular basis): Jim Joyce was utterly distraught when we talked to him. "Biggest call of my career, and I kicked (missed) the s**t out of it."
Joyce said he didn't know if he would try to talk to Galarraga. "I don't know what to do. I just cost that kid a perfect game."

Owning it......

Like the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Obvious holding on TGinn would have given us a first down and let us run out the clock. Worst call of the game by far. Unless you count the block in the back that went uncalled on the punt return.

Amen...except that was Chris Gamble. :wink2:

FUCK YOU JIM JOYCE!!!!!

Find a better angle, because it was a lot closer than that. Still obviously out though.

But, fuck the Tigers and lol.

Go to ESPN.com to see the better angle, where you can actually see the ball. This angle is just fucking terrible. EDIT: The video has the opposite angle. The front page is showing this photo. Dumb.

Joe West and a few other umps could take a lesson in humility from Joyce:

"I just cost that kid a perfect game," Joyce said. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay." "I don't blame them a bit for anything that was said," Joyce said. "I would've said it myself if I had been Galarraga. I would've been the first person in my face, and he never said a word to me."

Some of the other jokers in blue would've ejected Galarraga for looking at them after they fucked up the call.

The umpire admitted he fucked it up. It would've been the last out of the game. I disagree with those he think that allowing the call to be overturned would open pandora's box. The only situation where a called "safe" should be allowed to be overturned to "out" is if it's the last out, as it was here. Umpires should have the option of looking at replay for a call as important as this.

I agree Mililani. IMO some of the anger here is misplaced. Umpires are human and make human mistakes. And this particular Ump is not a total douche like some of them are. The real fault lies with MLB(and the Umpires union) for refusing to use the technology available to them to get these things right. Again, just my opinion. :)
