Umpire BLOWS Galarraga's Perfect Game

MLB might review this

MLB deciding whether to review blown call that costs Armando Galarraga of Detroit Tigers perfect game - ESPN

Commissioner Bud Selig has the power to reverse umpire Jim Joyce's missed call that came with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night in Detroit. Joyce ruled Cleveland's Jason Donald safe, then admitted he got it wrong.Selig would likely consult with his top advisers before making such a ruling. St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa says the call should be overturned.

best part is joyce is umpiring behind the plate today...lol

What the hell was going through Jason Donald's head on the play? I noticed he put his hands on his head like, "Oh no!" when he was called safe ... like he didn't want to screw up the perfect game by busting it down the line. Donald looked like he was disgusted with the call too.

I think he was just fully aware that he was actually out and didn't want to rob the kid of his perfect game in that manner. It's sort of like how it is really bad etiquette to lay down a bunt for a base hit when a pitcher is working with a perfect game or no hitter in late innings, even if it is a one run game.

No one has brought up this point yet;

At that point in the game, why would the pitcher not get the benefit of the doubt? If I were umping that game, the thought of calling that guy safe wouldn't have even crossed my mind on a close play. You can tell it was a close call in his mind because his first move was to punch him out, then he switches to calling him safe. I don't get it.

A good official calls what he sees, not what he wants.

that's why.

Funny the comments about Tigers being a Michigan team. There are more Tigers fans in Toledo than Indians. Can you blame them for not rooting for one of the worst franchises in sports history?

As a youngster, I became a Tigers fan in the '60s in Toledo, because in the days before cable TV, most areas of Toledo could get Detroit TV stations but not the ones from Cleveland. It wasn't based on which team was winning more games.

Like the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Obvious holding on TGinn would have given us a first down and let us run out the clock. Worst call of the game by far. Unless you count the block in the back that went uncalled on the punt return.

Bad call [strike]Keith[/strike] BN27!

Oops, wrong play...

This. An official should never anticipate or have a pre-meditated decision of a call. Once they do that then they lose their objectivity.

Find a better angle, because it was a lot closer than that. Still obviously out though.

But, fuck the Tigers and lol.

Go to ESPN.com to see the better angle, where you can actually see the ball. This angle is just fucking terrible. EDIT: The video has the opposite angle. The front page is showing this photo. Dumb.

Im so sorry for the shitty picture mins after the game is over.

Just heard that the Jim Joyce's family has been "hearing things" from fans. (they wouldn't elaborate) Now thats uncalled for!!!!! I could see that from the bottle throwing Cleveland fans, but thats not cool. It is not THAT big of a deal jeez. Pitcher is over it, let it go.

it wasnt game 7 of the World Series......It was against the worst team in MLB
