University of Cincinnati talk (split from Matt James thread)

while true, it does help that, unlike Fuzzy, Kerry will have had college coaching experience before he accends to the top spot.

Valid point.

Is Coombs the front runner when Kelly splits. (And i mean when, not if)

With what the administration is spending on upgrading the program would there be pressure to hire someone with more college experience? Or someone with a higher profile? Coombs might have name recognition here in Cincy but outside of the 513 he's a virtual unknown.

I am apologizing to the mods right now for derailing this thread away from James...but the above post is ignorant, at best.

Winning leads to attendance. Cincinnati has always been a basketball school. Rick Minter began the ball rolling that Mark Dantonio picked up and carried into the Big East. The attendance figures and season ticket sales have sky rocketed in the last three years and I do expect the trend to continue because, for the first time in my lifetime, I see a commitment from the school, administration and the almnui to make football a successful venture.
Not highly rated academically? says who? your negative elitest view? UC has world recoginzed programs in Art, Design, Architecture, Music and Fine Arts, Enginerring and Medicine. look it up someday when you feel like being owned.
Shame on you for saying a kid is making a mistake for choosing to attend any school based on YOUR feelings or thoughts. You really look like a giant ignoramous.

As for UC 'stealing' recruits from OSU. No, that's not the goal or focus. The goal/focus for UC recruiting is to steal kids from SWO who traditionally go to Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State or Kentucky...Lock those kids up and they can compete for the BE every year. The kids like James, UC could never get in the front door...now they are in the conversation...if the program keeps building eventually they will get a player of James' calibur from time to time. Its a natural progression...

now..if Kelly leaves it sounds like all of you are ready to sound the end of the program that has been built over the last 10 years...
two words: Kerry Coombs.

OK, what was ignorant? Let's see the words I used...."not very highly rated." What could very highly rated mean....maybe top 75-100 school? UC is not a top 100 undergrad school. Compared to the other schools on his list UC is not even in the same academic ballpark (except LSU). Please do not tell me you think UC is an academic equivalent to ND, Florida, or Ohio State.

Even mentioning UC engineering in the same breath as OSU or Florida is a joke (I am an engineer). Their business school is not even close to those 3. Even in medicine where they do well Ohio State is better. UC has some good programs, but they are not on the same level as Florida, Notre Dame, or Ohio State, especially for undergrad. No, it is not a terrible school. Please note I did not write that. Sorry your panties got in a twist over pretty much stating what most people know...ND, Florida, and Ohio State have superior undergrad educations.

As for the fans, the fact they could barely get 20,000 fans at any point is a freaking joke. I don't care if you are 0-13, and basketball schools are only basketball schools because their football sucks.

and Clifton is a dump.

Face it, my points are valid. Time for a reality check.

Well, he's been given the title 'Associate Head Coach' and the speculation is that he would be the next in line. I think his job as a recruiter the past two plus years has been one of the main reasons that UC has been able to at least knock on the door of some of these four and five star recruits...his name recognition is growing because of that.

I, too, believe Kelly will leave. Honestly, I think scUM made a mistake by not going after him instead of Dick Rod. I don't think ND makes that mistake when they deep six the Cheeseburger.

wait...when did OSU and Florida become the measuring stick to UC in your initial point??? You do realize this isn't Star Trek, right? you actually have to type your brainless thoughts into the computer.

Hey, your points ARE valid if you're comparing them to OSU, I suppose...but your initial post didn't even mention OSU. All you said is that it was a joke...sorry, but not everybody is a mind reader, Crespin...try spelling it out next time...and you're still wrong, by the way.

The reality check will come when a kid like James signs with UC and UC continues to grow its base and rep. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were the power houses of College Football. It takes time and patience...something you need, apparently, when putting togehter a coherent message board post.

Uh, no he didn't. He said that UC isn't very highly rated. Baybuck's post basically proved him to be right, your accusing him of saying something different and use of insulting language (probably because you realize you don't have a leg to stand on in this argument) notwithstanding.

I don't have a leg to stand on because I can't spell or pronounce Kreskin properly?

Ok, then please point to the original post and show where the comparrison to OSU and Florida is made? I didn't say UC was the end all of academic prowess. However, UC has the same admission standards as OSU and the programs I mentioned in my initial post ARE highly regarded in their respective fields. So what does Scotty do? he points to the business college and somebody else points to a US News report from 2007 that doesn't even accurately list the enrollment at UC. My use of insulting language is no different in my mind than Scotty calling out a kid for 'making a mistake' should he choose to attend Cincinnati. I could call Scotty a douchbag all day long and I wouldn't come close to his level of classlesness that he exhibited with that statement.

That is indeed the 2009 USN&WR ranking which lists UC as tier-3, and obviously it doesn't include the 2009 enrollment since that academic year has not yet begun. It seems a perfectly valid opinion, especially here on an OSU board, that a big-time recruit could do a lot better for himself than to choose UC, on the field and in the classroom.

You are a huge [censored]ing moron aren't you? Let's see, what schools were in the post I quoted? Holy crap, OSU, Notre Dame, Florida, and LSU.

I did not say it was a joke for academics, I said UC wasn't very highly rated (which is true, especially in comparison to the schools in the post I quoted). Their attendance for the vast majority of the program is a joke. You reference things that are not even in my post. You are a complete idiot and everyone here knows it.
