University of Cincinnati talk (split from Matt James thread)

I'm not here to say that UC is going to start going toe to toe on every recruit with OSU now and in the future but if UC can keep coach Kelly and continue to win double-digit games or close to it then I would expect them to be able to keep a good number of the blue-chippers from the greater Cincinnati area at home. Cincinnati is not that bad of a place to play, I don't think so anyway. The stadium is substancially smaller in comparison to OSU's but it is unique. I don't know if any of you have been there but when it's full it does provide a very cool atmosphere in my opinion. And then there is the element of having all your friends and family within a 30 minute radius and they can come watch you play whenever they choose. There is something about the place that I can see why is would be a viable option for hometown recruits.
Nice post and I agree with it, now if they can just keep Kelly.

That's my sentiment exactly! UC won't get nearly the amount of quality high profile recruits, but if Kelly can consistently compete highly in the Big East a lot more Cincy kids will stay home to play in front of family for him. Not every kid cares about going to a program with history, you have a lot more quality players willing to go to smaller upstart programs to start something special rather than going to a large football powerhouse. And it does help when a number of these have family that have attended UC as well which only helps them. As long as they don't go to scUM I'm cool with them going to "little brother" down south in the Nati.

I will believe it when I see it next february when James signs his LOI. I understand his father played there but still I don't see him signing with UC. Sure UC can get some top prospects but they will more likely be of the type WVU is getting (Devine, Lazear, Tavon Austin type).

That doesn't happen very often now, does it? I did 1 year of school at UC back in 1998-99, and tix were often available during the game.

I love all the new UC fans. I grew up and now live in Cincinnati. Clifton is horrible. The fanbase is a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. They had trouble getting 20,000 fans not too long ago. The school is not very highly rated academically, and for sports it's no where near OSU either. If he goes to UC he would be making a huge mistake all around. Much better options out there.

I am apologizing to the mods right now for derailing this thread away from James...but the above post is ignorant, at best.

Winning leads to attendance. Cincinnati has always been a basketball school. Rick Minter began the ball rolling that Mark Dantonio picked up and carried into the Big East. The attendance figures and season ticket sales have sky rocketed in the last three years and I do expect the trend to continue because, for the first time in my lifetime, I see a commitment from the school, administration and the almnui to make football a successful venture.
Not highly rated academically? says who? your negative elitest view? UC has world recoginzed programs in Art, Design, Architecture, Music and Fine Arts, Enginerring and Medicine. look it up someday when you feel like being owned.
Shame on you for saying a kid is making a mistake for choosing to attend any school based on YOUR feelings or thoughts. You really look like a giant ignoramous.

As for UC 'stealing' recruits from OSU. No, that's not the goal or focus. The goal/focus for UC recruiting is to steal kids from SWO who traditionally go to Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State or Kentucky...Lock those kids up and they can compete for the BE every year. The kids like James, UC could never get in the front door...now they are in the conversation...if the program keeps building eventually they will get a player of James' calibur from time to time. Its a natural progression...

now..if Kelly leaves it sounds like all of you are ready to sound the end of the program that has been built over the last 10 years...

Honor&Glory, facts are pretty clear. Scott did not pay USNews to rank them that low.
University of Cincinnati

Tier 3

College Category:
National Universities

Pretty sure that is the worst tier.

There is also a tier-4, but tier-3 puts them behind at least 5 universities in Ohio alone, on par with BG and Kent State. As for being "owned", OSU is higher in medicine, law, engineering and pharmacy, among others.

Exactly.

That is precisely the reason why no one bought into the possibility of James actually going to UC without other factors -- i.e. pops and his high school buddy going there.

Not trying to be disrespectful, but 1999 is much differecnt from 2009.
Didn't mean to suggest anything. Don't know about the present. So I'll take your word for it. Thanks for the clarification.
