Whats next for Notre Dame

As all of you already know, ND is in a heap of trouble. They needed to hit a home run and land Urban Meyer or another "high profile" coach (Urban is high profile due to his recent success). In all likelyhood, their home run is either not interested or has already taken another job or signed an extension.

The only way I can see Notre Dame getting out of this mess is by either persuading Holtz to come back for two more seasons which would be relatively sexy for Holtz considering the fact that he will have a veteran QB returning, and an opportunity to become a Messiah to this University in the sense that he will be saving them for a second time (remember the Faust mess?). This would buy Notre Dame some time to find their true hero for the future. Again this is my opinion and is meant for discussion.

For those that didn't hear or see, I saw a couple interesting points made in the media yesterday. The first is that Notre Dame is missing the beat with the recruits because they don't have a Notre Dame guy doing the recruiting. They cannot sell to the recruits the true product of the institution. This is why Luke Fickell has been such a solid helping hand in the recruiting process. Tressel is also an OSU guy being that he worked for Woody.

The other comments I found interesting were that the media thinks that the only way Notre Dame can save face is to admit their wrongdoing and convince Ty W to come back to serve out the remainder of his contract. Again, I found this comment interesting, but I do not agree with it. If the admin were to do this, in my opinion they would be crucified more than they already are, especially if Ty W turned them down and accepted a position in the PAC 10.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

They fucked up because they took Meyer for granted. Why you would ever dismiss a halfway decent coach before having another all but delivered is far beyond me. The Notre Dame hubris bit them in the ass, hard.

They could do worse than Bill Curry.

How can WALKER suck? He did beat you guys this year didn't he?

Ara and Montana are pushing hard for Clements! Actually Joe is on ESPN radio thsi afternoon talking about Clements..

How can he suck? Oh I don't know how about 1 winning season out of 6 and an overall record of 30-41 in that time?

If you want to hire a guy with that kind of record because of 1 fluke win over OSU it would be just another in a long line of moronic moves by the ND administration. Yet at this point that doesn't really suprise anyone does it?

I can't stand Randy Walker...and he'd be a bust at ND, because he can't win every year. If you're going to fire a guy with a 21-15 record after 3 seasons, hiring Walker is the dumbest thing you can do. ND is going to have to face the fact that they aren't going to get a "big name" guy to come in, so they are going to have to hope for a pleasant surprise from a lesser name.

From what I hear it is more of the press mentioning Walker and not ND!
But come on give the guy some credit as he won with a team not anywhere near as talented as OSU.

More and more talk of Clements as it is being reported that the Bills have given ND permission to talk to him.

Clements is a decent option, but the Bills have had stretches over the last few years where they've basically quit playing, which is not a good sign for a potential college coach at a big-time program.
