When does "great offense" equal crappy defense?

Fact of the matter is: Offense has eclipsed defense in so many cases. The passing game and tremendous athletes at quarterback, receiver, running back and the true skilled position the offensive lines makes it difficult to play defense. I wonder how many shut-outs occurred in 2012 and how many will happen in 2013. Also the rules favor the offense. Add to this the defenseless offensive player rule, makes defenders wary.

Good offenses in many ways have made good to great defenses more of an exception rather than a rule. Ball control does not mean what it used to, and time of possession is not as valid as it used to be.

I hope this is germane to the topic.

I think Alabama still has a pretty good defense, but A&M was really up for that game, and they do have a potent offense, that can frustrate even a great defense with a good scheme. A&M's defense is not good though. So out of those four teams, you have 3 sub-par defenses this year, and one good defense with a bad performance.

Until a team from another conference makes a king of the SEC butt sore, we are going to get this nonsense from the media. CBS and ESPN are invested in the SEC - monetarily if not emotionally.

Here's to Ohio State getting the chance to be the team that beats the snot out of the SEC champ, but to be honest, after way too many years of this crap, I will cheer for anyone who can do it so we can just stop hearing about SEC dominance.

Alabama - if that's who is standing at the end - is beatable. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean someone will actually beat them.

Let us remember that, when Ohio State had a stifling defense and okay offense, they criticized Tresselball. Kansas State was supposedly better, due to their weekly shootouts. ?sesra aidem ,won oS

They were also more successful with a solid to weak offense then when the offense was good. Now there's plenty of room to dispute whether they had a strong defense in 06 & 07.

The exciting point is meyer demands both.

The intriguing twist is that he never won without great defense at Florida.
