WR Ray Small (official thread)

Wow, what a freakin' maniac his father is. Talk about being a good influence. Small's effort just hasn't been there before day one. The running out of bounds then dropping the pass in the endzone play vs. Wisconsin was just criminally bad from an effort standpoint. Then he started to clown around on fielding punts. Not unhappy about this at all.

...(Ken Small) was encouraging his son to think about faking an injury, receiving a medical red-shirt for playing in fewer than four games, and then having two years of eligibility left at another school.

Geez, with a classy father like that it's hard to tell what went wrong with this kid. No wonder he doesn't think he has to follow the same rules as everyone else.

"We see it as a family that they are intentionally blowing his whole career," Ken Small said Wednesday night. "Whatever it is, it's personal."

No, thats your son who is blowing his own career. It's Small's loss and OSU's gain.

Grad, and anyone else in the "know" of recruiting - If Small does end up leaving, how will this effect the recruting? I'm sure another open scholly for this class is welcomed by the staff?

Our passing game was more advanced last season than we are right now, so Small wasn't really counted on to play a huge role. But this kid has always been in the doghouse, and showed poor effort in tracking down the DB who intercepted Boeckman's ball in the NC game. Nothing he's done before has quite matched his effort in circus catching every easy punt attempt over the last two games though and actually fumbling once.

It's a really touchy subject and I'm not sure if it's even proper to air it publically before it hits the fan... so it's been hinted at without isolating the players involved.

I'll say this... I can't wait for next year. They'll make mistakes, but I'm eager to watch the intensity of Sabino, Rolle, Moeller, Hines, Bell, Shugarts, Boren help bolster the core of this team.

First, his father is a horrible example......trying to cheat the system with a medical red shirt.....r u fng kiddin me.....wow

second, i want this kid to transfer. If the vest can straighten your ass out you need to learn the long and hard way. Go ahead transfer to appalachian state continue to cut class, miss meetings and ya they will put up with it but your lesson will be learned when you are playing for the CFL making less than about 80% of people that post on Buckeye Planet.

Then you and your father have no one to blame but yourselves.

Ugh. This is terrible news for a variety of reasons. I expected a lot from Ray, but if he can't get his stuff together off the field, then I suppose he doesn't deserve his shot. I'm glad we have a coach who teaches more than just football. It's frustrating when people aren't willing to take advantage of unbelievable opportunities.

I wish Ray luck.

I would have loved to see what the Ray Small I saw play in HS could do on the field at this level, and I'm sure the staff did too. This is 100% on Ray. We sure as hell didn't come to this point from a lack of second, third, fourth chances etc... extended by the staff and extra attention to try and help him un-f*** himself and mature into a responsible student athlete.

I don't have anything against the kid and wish him well wherever he ends up. All I feel is dissapointment, both for the program as a fan and for Ray Small as a person because he had the physical gifts to be a special player here and go on to make a great living playing football on Sundays. Now he'll probably be trying to salvage his potential football career with 1 year of eligibility at a 1aa/FCS program. It sucks for all involved in my opinion.
