Brutus1: "Yea, but you probably loved Brown before he arrived. At the time, I was po'd that the Yanks got such a good pitcher."
You'd be hard pressed to find a Yankee fan who was in favor of that deal at the time, since then, or right now.
They let Andy Pettite (home grown fan favorite) walk in favor of Brown, but more importantly (in my eyes, anyway) they threw their best pitching prospect in the deal (Yhency Brazoban) in the deal for no reason whatsoever.
The only positive was that they were able to dump Jeff Weaver.
The Yankee-hater doesn't think logically when it comes to the Yanks. They see a big contract acquisition, they see a name, and they get mad .. regardless of whether or not its a bad move for the franchise.
"Didn't he pitch well last year before he busted his hand on the wall/can/object ?"
By a quirk of fate (and the season opening in Japan last season), Brown had a lot of starts against Tampa and dominated them. I think he had like 5 starts against TB before the All-Star break and won all five. But he got rocked against every other team. So, on the strength of his starts against Tampa, his numbers were halfway decent before the injury, but they were nothing more than a mirage - a shoddy mirage at that, because his numbers weren't good: just much better than this season.
