FKA, I don't know where you're getting some of this stuff from, but lets tackle each one:
"on each of their respective draft days, Ross had the stat's to put Gamble's to shame"
First of all, who cares about stats on draft day, and what stats are you referring to? Interceptions? Tackles? If a DB has high totals on both, it most likely means that a.) teams are throwing at him because he's poor in coverage, and/or b.) teams are running at him because he's a poor run stopper. A great example of this is Shawn Springs, who won Big Ten Defensive POY and 3rd Overall Pick in the NFL Draft without a single INT during his Junior year. So, they're decieving stats for the position, and not a single NFL scout cares about a player's College stats. All they care about is potential. Case in point: Kliff Kingsbury & the Current Texas Tech QB (forget his name) have put up monster stats the last two years that've eclipsed every other QB in the country - but on Draft day, you won't hear their names before the likes of Manning, Rothlisberger, or Rivers.
"I'm not trying to knock Gamble, but he is going to be drafted on nothing more than potential."
True, Gamble, like everybody, will get drafted on potential, but when you say 'nothing more,' now that's ridiculous. Gamble was an impact player in college, who led his team to the National Title as an All-American and (IMO) the best player in the country in 2002. You're making it seem like he's a great athlete with an undistinguished college career. That is far from the truth. Gamble is one of the greatest Buckeyes to ever lace em up, and will be remembered as such. Think about how many '02 Buckeye highlights included # 7 in them.
"Ross had proven himself for four years"
This is incorrect. Ross was an early entry in the NFL Draft, and (if I recall correctly) missed an entire season due to academic issues. Either way, the most Ross played here was three seasons, and in '98 as a true freshman he was strictly a Special Teamer.
"statistically had a very poor year in 2003"
Again, how are you judging this? Please post some criteria with your argument.
"Ross came out in a weak year for safeties"
Ross and Gamble are Cornerbacks, not safeties.
