Where did you see this? I've never heard of that and I know we played games in less than 40 degree weather.

I think it is suppose to be a "Gentleman's agreement"..........I have played in the snow before. We play when it is in the 30s every year.

Soccer until high school (my school didn't have a soccer team). I probably would have been best at basketball (I was a good shooter) but hated the coach and didn't play after freshman year. I did play softball for 4 years but never started varsity. I was a much better band geek than athlete.

Yikes, we actually have something in common. Except for the soccer part and being a good shooter (I was best at defense), this was my high school expeirence.

I never saw the rule specifically, but when I was at Watkins, we didn't play 3 games my senior year simply because it was too cold. I didn't really care at the time to track it down.

Maybe it wasn't a rule on the books but a gentleman's agreement as is suggested above this post, but it seemed to be expected by our coaching staff. :ohwell:

That makes sense...I know the first game of my senior year was played in snow flurries. That sucked.

I'd imagine....

Oddly enough we played games in the rain a couple times (against New Albany and against Whitehall), but both of them were at least in the 50 degree range.

As a side note, I haven't yet found anything definitive one way or the other on the OHSAA website....

ETA:

OHSAA uses the National Federation of High Schools rule book for it's baseball games. There is nothing on the OHSAA website that refers to any weather situation and the NFHS website doesn't have a copy of it's rule book on the website (you have to order it)....so without seeing that I'm guessing it's a gentleman's agreement as stated above.

my best sport was baseball, i hated it more than most of you hate lloyd, charlie, michigan and notre dame combined. to this day i dont watch baseball. i was forced to play until i was 16 (to make it two sports). if i had it my way i would have walked off the mound at the second i turned 16 and never played again. the odd thing is i never told anyone i didnt like baseball at all. i had two mac offers to play in college with partial scholies though, even though i never played another inning after that season.

currently favorite sport i play is golf, a gave up basketball a few years out of college, playing as a 6 7 guy with any sort of intensity was too much of a beating on my body.

None of the above. I sucked equally at all of them.

If forced to pick, I was at least better-than-horrible in golf (for my age). As strohs and GD01 can attest, I now suck at that too.

And you gave up gymnastics after the "incident..."

But didn't you ultimately find your niche?

Football was my best sport. I started playing tackle in 5th grade. I loved it. But I was like you being forced to play baseball. I started fast pitch in like 3rd grade. My old man wanted me to play; an extension of what he couldn't do. He had a try out with the Twins back in the day, and on a rainy day, he slipped in the outfield and screwed up his back. He was never the same since. So ever since I can remember, baseball was drilled into my head, and I played up through my sophomore year of high school, then I moved onto track, shot and discus. My dad ruined the game for me. When your dad is the coach of your little league team for your entire life, and he's at every baseball game in high school, you get tired of it real fast. I hate playing, and will never force my sons into playing anything they don't want to play.

Football and baseball are close and since I'm a junior, I guess I don't really know to this point.

Football- Kind of a break out year for me playing mostly TE. Went from occasionally starting JV as a sophomore to being all-conference this year. Had 16 catches for 342 yards which is about 21 yards per catch. On defense I play OLB but was stuck behind a returning all-stater and a returning all conference guy. We were regional champs in D-3. However when the all state guy went down in the regional champonship game right before halftime, i came in and made 6 tackles in the second half and our defense pitched a shutout in the 2nd half too.

Baseball- Lettered last year as a sophomore, had a .368 batting average, hit 4 HR, 43 RBI, started CF.

So I guess as of right now I would say football would be my best sport basically because baseball season hasn't started yet.
