Ok - I've thought about this a little bit, and want to get some feedback. What if we get rid of the buying "penalty" and we have a rule that we are limited to a maximum of 4 transactions (each "buy" or "sell" counts as 1 transaction) per week? You can sell 2 of your teams and buy 2 more. Or sell 1 and buy 3, or whatever. Do we like that better than the previous rule?

Also, are there any Big Ten teams playing on Thursday, Sept. 1? If so, I think we need to start this rule on that day, instead of Saturday, Sept. 3.

Wiscy plays on 9-1 and Sparty on 9-2.

I like the limited trades better than having to use points for trades.

I'll start with:

6 - Nebraska
3 - TSUN
1 - Indiana

Okie dokie. Unlimited trades until the Wisconsin game kicks off. After that, and until games kick off during Week 2, you only get 4 trades. Team values are equal to the number of in-conference wins the teams had last year (Nebraska uses Big 12 games). Each week will have a maximum of 4 trades. We each start with 10 points.

When Big Ten play starts, the values from this season will be used, instead of last year's games. Also, if you haven't picked teams up to that point, you're too late.

When Big Ten play starts, are you using the total number of 2011 wins including the non-conf games?

All teams that lost the first week are worth 0, and all teams that won the first week are worth 1. And if you wait that long to pick your teams, you've waited too long.

Wow - good catch. And we should have a rule about that. Yeah - once conference games start, you'll lose all leftover points. Maybe if you have 1 point leftover, I'll give you a 1-point team (if available). If you have 2 points, I'll give you a 2-point team, and so on. If there isn't anything available, I'm afraid you're out the points.

But once the conference games start, I want an option to be available to carry-over points. For instance, if you sell a team for 4 points, you can buy a team for 3 and you don't lose the last point. If that team wins, that team is worth 4 points, and you can sell them, and now you have 5 points to spend.

Somebody keeping 1 point, and then being able to pick up a team like Nebraska, Wiscy, or tOSU with 1 or 2 points, when everybody else had to use 6 or 7 points to get them, would be very inequitable. I think you need to definitively state that no leftover points can be used to buy teams after conference play has started.

Yes - that's what I meant (but I agree - it wasn't clear from my post). Once conference play starts, you may not carry over points from your original 10 to after it starts.

What I meant was that if you have points left over, like Yertle does:

What I'll do (unless Yertle comes in here and says otherwise) is give him Indiana, since Indiana is a 1-point team. If someone has 2 points leftover when conference play begins, I'll give him Purdue or Minnesota, or something, so that he doesn't get screwed out of those points. Of course, if you don't want to get screwed out of those points, make your picks reflect that you have 0 points left when conference play starts.

So.. here's as definitive as I can make it. If someone can make it more definitive, have at it. No points will carry over from the "pre-conference game period" to the "conference game period". Your 10 points to begin the season will get you your teams, and then leftover points will disintegrate. Also, after the first week of conference games (all teams are either 1-0 or 0-1), you may carry over points from one week to the next. I gave an example in a previous post about a team that has 4 wins. You believe they will lose the next game, or they have a bye, or whatever. You sell them, and can't find another 4-win team you want. You buy a 3-win team. You have 1 point leftover. That point is not lost. If your 3-win team wins, you can sell that now-4-win team for 4 points, and you now have 5 points to spend.

Again, here's how many points each team is worth now:
