2012 Preseason and regular polls (official thread)

The preseason ranking didn't affect USC's final ranking, so I don't see this situation as being evidence of a problem.

I remember an early season game between Alabama and UCLA, probably in the late 90s. Alabama came in ranked 3rd in the country. UCLA beat them and vaulted up the charts. Alabama finished something like 3-9, but UCLA was greatly rewarded for that win immediately, based on preseason rankings.

Of course, UCLA would have to keep winning to stay up there but it would be harder for them to climb the ladder without that "signature win" that was based on nothing.

Florida beat Fl State and Louisville manhandled Florida yet both are ranked higher than the Cardinals? Yeah, that makes total sense. What a complete joke. It's amazing how much the brand of big schools helps them.

I've got nothing against Louisville, but they still are a two-loss team, and one of those losses was to 5-7 UConn. They played a fabulous Sugar Bowl against Florida and were rewarded with a huge jump in the polls (#22 to #13). Considering this is the final poll of the season and should reflect a team's entire season performance, I don't think #13 is totally ridiculous for that Louisville team.

I have no problem with tOSU at #3. I do, however, have an issue with scUM (and Nebraska for that matter) being ranked. Give me a break. There isn't a more deserving team than 5-loss scUM, whose best win was a monumental choke job by an "okay" Northwestern team?

Same here. I don't think we deserve to be ranked. But I think had we lost to a team that wasn't in the top 10, we wouldn't have been ranked.
