2013-2014 B1G Men's Basketball

Well folks I don't believe it but the door is now back open for the #4 seed and a 1st round bye....Illinois just shocked Iowa with a 3 pointer with 0.5 seconds left for a 66-63 win.

So if Wisky beats Nebraska and Ohio State beats Michigan State Ohio State will get #4 seed and a 1st round bye.

If Nebraska wins or Ohio State loses amazingly they will be #4 seed who would have ever though that after Ohio State beat them down by 31 earlier this year.

Well the odds were pretty long not to long ago to have even a shot at this #4 seed. This is from the internet a few days ago on what needed to happen and every game has fell the right way with 2 left to go.

So what does Ohio State need to do?
1) Beat Michigan State. This goes without saying, really. If Ohio State can't beat Michigan State, not only will they finish the regular season on a three game losing streak, but they won't be able to finish higher than 6th in the Big Ten standings. If the Buckeyes want a shot at winning this thing, finishing below 5th will really give them a tough road.

And well, that's all Ohio State can do. What else would need to happen? There are a few scenarios that might work.

1) Illinois must beat Iowa. This is...uh, not super likely, but every scenario where Ohio State gets a bye requires it. So who hates Iowa? WE HATE IOWA.

2) The most likely scenario would also require Nebraska to beat Indiana, Michigan State to beat Iowa, Michigan to beat Indiana, and Wisconsin to beat Nebraska to end the season. This is not super unlikely.

The last time Ohio State had 8 conf losses was in 2009 the year Ohio State was an 8 seed and lost to Siena in the 1st round.

It is interesting to debate which team is better, 2014 or 2009. They have very different qualities, 2009 was a team with a lot better talent among the top couple of players but they were poor in terms of ballhandling and not very good defensively although on offense they shot the ball at a fairly high percentage from the field; this team is very good defensively but on offense they shoot a mediocre percentage from the field and are a pretty good ballhandling team.

Can't wait to see how quickly Uncle Tom's boys blow this one in the 2nd half.
No problem:biggrin: Uncle jerk Tommy should have gotten a T when he actually reached out onto the court and touched one of his own players telling them to move to the other side of the court or to at least move. He is such a jerk!

Iowa losing to Illinois at home is just unbelievable

The expectations were much different in '09 than '14--in '09, I was just hoping all year for a ticket to the Dance, whereas this year the 15-0 start and #3 ranking spoiled OSU fans, I think, and there's a lot of disappointment with this team. That's the downside of the incredible success Matta's had at OSU.

Dude, I didn't see that, but the whole first half, I swear Stauskas had to move around Crean multiple times while Michigan was on offense because he was at least 2 steps out on the court. I couldn't believe he didn't get a warning or anything.

Good news there is no chance we play Penn State in the Big 10 tournament in the opening round. They are locked in as the #10 seed and Ohio State will either be the #4, #5 or #6 seed.

If Ohio State wins today and Nebraska loses we are the #4 seed and get a 1st round bye and that be incredible with 10-8 record.
If Ohio State wins today and Nebraska wins we are the #5 seed and we would play the #12 seed which would be the loser of Northwestern at Purdue game today.
If Ohio State loses today they will be #6 seed and we would play #11 seed which would be the winner of the Northwestern at Purdue game today.

Well, you may be right after the Lighty injury merely making the tourney was a success. But that team started off hot, they were unbeaten and ranked #15 or so in the country before losing to West Virginia. Another interesting way they are comparable, both spending most of nonconference play unbeaten. Also, this team (like 2009) has a former 4-star recruit redshirting, ostensibly due to injury.

Well that sums up this season nicely :sadtrombone:

But I don't disagree that this team has been a disappointment. Preseason top-15, you are expected to finish right at the top of the B1G and not 5 games back of the winners.

Preseason polls should be printed on rolls and sold in 4 packs. Kentucky was the consensus #1 in preseason. How you're perceived by voters before you ever play a game is meaningless.
