2017 tOSU Offense Discussion

I guess this is as good of place as any for this.

Looking at OL by class, I didn't realize how bad the depth situation really was looking.

Trout and Lisle are gone now but here are the rest, regardless of being Guards or Tackles that have to concern you;

D Knox RS JR
B Taylor RS JR

Bowen RS So
Burell RS So
Feder RS So

These guys have all been passed over either by true So Jordan or true JR Prince and to cement it, saw OSU go the JUCO ranks to get Pridgeon.

That was a whole lot of swinging and missing in the '14 and '15 OL recruiting classes.

The 3 guys from last year all redshirted and you hear next to nothing about them so other than the starters you have 3 RS Fr from last year and the 2-3 true freshman that will show up this fall.

That is kind of scary stuff.

Pridgeon

He's in the mix as a starter no?

Jones, Jordan, Price, Prince and Pridgeon = known quantity/starter

Gerald, Wolabaugh and Cupp = RS Freshmen

Davis, Meyers and ??= incoming freshman

The rest are guys who have been in the program 3+ years and haven't been able to contribute at all.

I just never realized it was that dramatic

At the point where the right tackle has the worst stats in football and there was no one to replace him.

And that backup guard whiffed big time, this all becomes a concern.

If Jones goes PRO, it's a problem.

I would feel better if we had the #1, #4, #8, and #12 tackles coming into the program.

Possibly, Warriner is a great OL coach but a bad talent evaluator?

Most of those guys had impressive offer sheets, didn't they? It's hard for me to believe he can turn players like Reid Fragel and Darryl Baldwin into good RT's in a single offseason yet he can't develop players who've played the position since high school.

I'm anxious to see how this offensive staff shakes out.

Beck is gone so who becomes the new whipping boy if the O is "perceived " as under performing. Ed Greg Urban or the players?

I guess that would depend on if it "is" or "isn't" performing, like 2015 and 2016 where it "wasn't", not "perception".

And if it does underperform, then it probably should be evaluated at that time. What a novel idea!

My guess is JT takes the brunt of it with a call for Burrow or Haskins....

But I truly think we re-dedicate our offense to the power run and take a lot of pressure off the QB. I expect much more of the point guard type distribution from the QB position next year which never should've changed in the first place.

“Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”
Tennyson

We are going to be just fine in 2017!
The early defections to the NFL will slow.
And although there will be some roster turnover, the quality of the team will get even better!
The defense will be fine.
The offense will actually help carry the load!
Special teams will get better, more reliable.

RANKING OHIO STATE'S H-BACKS UNDER URBAN MEYER

79142_h.jpg,qitok=ajKF2ize.pagespeed.ce.tdRh0To6rZ.jpg

NEXT MAN UP

Ohio State has a number of options at the H-back position in 2017, but the most likely candidate is running back Demario McCall, who backed up Mike Weber this season much like Samuel did in 2015.

Another future playmaker is incoming freshman Tyjon Lindsey. Once he adds weight to his 160 lb. frame, the four-star receiver out of Bishop Gorman may give the Buckeyes their best true slot receiver since Philly Brown.

Notice how those Clemson receivers go up and get those 50/50 balls? What would that be like? So either: 1) our receivers can't do that, 2) they can but the coaching staff doesn't want to risk it, 3) they can and coaching staff doesn't think JT can get the ball to them, or 4) some combination of all of the above.

What I noticed was how Bama ran the same quick screens over and over and over...and then when Clemson jumped it, they faked it and hit the long ball over the top to a tight end who didn't have anyone within 10 yards of him. Imagine that. I'm sure it happened (maybe??) but did we ever fake that swing pass to Weber/Samuel and go vertical off it? I don't remember it happening. Just impotent frustration at knowing that's where the ball was going as soon as the back moved.
