Buckeye Defense - 2004 (official thread)

The Reason I say they have better players because of how many seniors they have! On the other Buckeye sight ozone there authors tend to agree that maybe we gave these boys too much hype because of how young they are?

If you look at it..... There D-Line/ O-Line are better.... Their Running back is by far better. We have better Recievers/Linebackers, and I would give us the edge in Db's IF fox was in but he wasn't so they had the advantage there as well

The bottom line is they were more talented where it matter most... In the Trenches, and at the Running back position. Not to mention there QB clearly was better than ours that day.

OSU-Advantage in Kicker,Recievers,Linebackers........

I for one can't keep saying its mistakes that kills us........

its not that the numbers are worse on 3rd down, it just seems that
we are continually giving third and LONG.

This all goes back to a lack of a natural pass rush...blitzing only thins out the defenders and opens more room to run. No blitz and the QB has all day to sit there...and EVERY zone has soft spots that can be manipulated.

Defense

All's I gata say is the defense bent but didn't break which is good. However, Next week we cannot afford to let the QB and running back run wild or we will lose.... I liked our pass coverage and I admire the play of Schlegal and Pitcock against the run but we need to stop the run better or we won't beat MSU or Michigan.

Tackeling/pursuit angles/3rd down scheme..we have issues on D that don't seem to be getting much better.

To second what someone else above said..this is down the stretch and all 3 remaining opponents have the offensive firepower to put up some big points on this team.

The improvement we have seen in the running game the past two weeks MUST continue. This defense just isn't good enough to rely that heavily on.

Youbouty had a good game. Fox definitely adds leadership and fire in there. I also liked what I saw from the LBs (esp. Schlagel) and Everett (nice pick).

I agree, though, the tackling needs to improve. It's so frustrating to see a play that could go for a loss turn into a 1st down.

I'd be happy if OSU's defense did better just on 3rd down conversions. That would make so much difference. Jax, I'd love to see one of your stats on how many 3rd downs OSU's defense has faced and how many times OSU has stopped the conversion to a 1st down!!!
Question Jax: are you the research statistician for Fox sports or something?? :)
