Buckeye Defense - 2004 (official thread)

I agree.... the only call I liked on 3rd down was when we moved to the 3-4 look and then blitzed the outsides forcing Robinson to throw the ball to the sidelines. Our 3rd down play calling is predictable and very conservative. I'm not accustomed to our defense tackling so poor!! I realize their QB is 225 pounds but man you have to bring someone like that down. Also the Pursuit angle's are starting to become a problem also! Like when Frasier over ran The running back it just made me sick. Schlegal is playing the best right now on defense IMO.

Question Jax: are you the research statistician for Fox sports or something?? :)

No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

. Jax, I'd love to see one of your stats on how many 3rd downs OSU's defense has faced and how many times OSU has stopped the conversion to a 1st down!!!

If you are asking for our cumlative opponents 3rd down conversion rate its 50/131 which is 38%. Not great. As a point of refrence we are converting at a 34% clip (37/110).

Our Offense has to find a way to keep the Defense off the field.

We ran 6 offensive plays today in the first 20 minutes of the game. You can't continue to aks your Defense to do that.

Oh8ch if you were at the game then you'll realize we returned the first kick for a TD to go along with a Defensive touchdown.......To go long with a 1st series dropped pass for a first down and the defense failing on 3rd down and you'll realize that the offense was the one not given the opportunity to get on the field.

Man I cannot believe that you guys are not ripping the d-line play. I thought is was just AWFUL today. No push, no pressure, piss poor tackling. Simon F was turned around in circles. Pittcock did OK. We need some serious help here.

I bet that the LBs and the secondary made 90% of the tackles. Tiough to be a dominant D when all the line does is occupy freeken space.

yes there were times the Offense had to punt the ball however the defense didn't help the cause and neither did the special teams

Special Teams- Let the ball get pinned at the 1 yardline to go along with returning that Kick which will put them right back out there.

Offense-Failed on some drives but according to the numbers only had to punt 5 times and 2 times shouldn't of happen (dropped balls), and 2 other times put the Defense on the field because of turnovers. Althought the Offense did put the defense back on the field 5 times its alot better than what they usually do.

Defense- Played great on pass coverage on 3rd down but couldn't stop the run on 3rd down. Hell we couldn't really stop the run all game so how do you expect to get off the field? Not to mention the clock that got ate up with them running the ball.

It was the defense as much as the offense that was at fault for them being on the field so much.

BukI - I was there.

A punt return is not an offensive TD in my book, nor is an interception return. Dropped passes are part of the offense. So are fumbles.

We will have to agree to disagree for now. Next week we will play a quality opponent on the road and find out what we have.

I believe this can be a good O - I just don't think we are there yet.

The D-Line got a lot of penetration today.

did anyone else see what Folanator posted? our D-line was horrible today and I agree 100%... I never said a punt return/INT return was an offensive touchdown but those two events put our Defense right back onto the field! are you guys forgetting what happened to us the past 3 games when we lost? our defense just couldn't stop anyone!!! It wasn't any different today boyz! we stopped the pass which is awesome but when your D-line isn't making plays and they're running for first downs how the hell do you expect the offense to get good field position/ not to mention keep the ball moving? again 7/12 on 3rd down guys! LOOK AT THE NUMBERS! every team in america would love to keep there defense off the field but the fact is the defense has to go on the field at some point! and us buckeyes have got to realize our defense isn't the ones of the past! Its just as much the defenses fault as it is the offense.

haha come on now............. ALOT of penetration??? they stood their ground at some points but they DID NOT stay in there rush lanes and they DID NOT contain outside with the ends.......I'm speachless at what you guys are making this defense out to sound like they played very good today because guys they didn't.
