The only disgrace here are the ones who thinks that way about JT.

Word. I can't fathom the thought. Urban Meyer is a home run hire, I haven't doubted that for about six or seven years - I always figured he'd come back 'home' eventually, just not like this with Tressel leaving in disgrace.

But anyway you slice it, Tressel had a great run. 6 straight conference titles! 1 national title, 3 title game appearances in 6 years. If Urban could actually top that that'd be insane, because IMHO we just lived the glory years. The trajectory that JT was on in this day and age is really unfathomable. I think a lot of people should go back and look at how good the team was just last year. Had tattoo-gate not broken, we're playing LSU again this year.

If Urban actually tops all that from just the JT era?

Man ... we're spoiled.

Meyer's best move Monday mirrored one he made upon arrival in Gainesville. At Florida, Strong was the interim coach after Zook was fired. He was the most popular coach on the staff among the players. He was the closer in recruiting. He also had a great defensive mind. Meyer retained Strong. Luke Fickell was the interim coach at Ohio State after Tressel was fired. He was the most popular coach on the staff among the players. He was the closer in recruiting. He also has a great defensive mind. Meyer retained Fickell. If Meyer can assemble a staff comparable to the one he assembled in 2005 at Florida, he'll be able to manage those expectations as long as he can keep that staff together. Keeping Fickell is the ideal start.

Fickell: There is No Other Place
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? After one more game, Luke Fickell will no longer be the head coach of the Ohio State football team.

Whether that was decided in November, or back in May after Jim Tressel was forced into retirement is of little consequence at this point.

The Buckeyes were 6-6 under Fickell. They went through just about as much as any team could without ripping apart at the seems. For that, Fickell was asked to remain on staff in Columbus by new head coach Urban Meyer, who will officially assume his new role after the Buckeyes? Gator Bowl matchup with Florida on Jan. 2, 2012.

Fickell guided Ohio State through some tough times, and he would likely have some other options after the bowl game, but the 38-year old has no plans to leave Columbus any time soon.

?To me there is no other place for me to go in college football and that?s the way I feel about Ohio State,? Fickell said while appearing on the Gator Bowl teleconference Sunday evening.

I have waited to say something about Luke since I got here. I just wasn't sure about what to say. I really wanted to say thanks..but I was hoping he'd be back..and happy..He is and I'm thrilled. The force is strong with this one. One day this will all be his..With JT and Urban Meyer showing him so many things...and what I can only imagine as a free reign to do what he wants by then. I say B-chokes best days at tsun are already behind him...as sick as Urban might be as a recruiter..Luke will be an animal..I mean you cannot fake what he exudes..Loyalty, Dedication and Honor. He'll be able to sit in a kids house and say..yea I'll be here..Hell I'll be here when your kids are ready for college. What's that famous quote.."You can have my Ohio State when you pry it from my cold dead fingers". Go Bucks...The future is wide open!:osu:
