Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

Boeckman...lol...i know that now is not the time for him to come in...but i would have liked to see him get more playing time...obviously it's the coaches decision not to play him so they must be seeing something in practice but i still think that he is currently the best QB we have right now

After spending some time digesting that nauseating performance last night, I watched a few more minutes of it this morning.

I can't help but ask. What the fuck offense? I don't get it. Is it possible to have this much talent on the field and yet look like a JV team? PSU's defense is good. But not that good. They have maybe three players that would crack our two deep. We practice everyday against the toughest defense in the nation. Do we look that inept Monday through Friday too? And if we do, why do accept this. Or do we spend Saturday's in a perpetual state of first tee jitters?

I just don't get it.

You people being so passive and saying things like "Well we played a good defense, the crowd was loud, it was wet..........the player had a bad game. Will you ever truely wake up? 5 years of this. 5 years. Even the games we win, we look bad on offense. When we "blow a team out", our offense looks bad. I personally think you could put USC's players on this team, and the offense would look bad, because we dont have a coach who knows how to use all that speed, and talent.

In regards to the QB Situation, I am not a fan of either of them. However I will say this. With our "monkey fucking a football" style of offense, Troy gives us the better chance to win. Simply because he is an athlete and can run, and make things happen. Justin throws a real nice ball if it's within 10 yards of scrimmage. If he has to throw a deeper pass, touch pass, etc.......it looks like a duck.

Once again last night I was watching our receivers down field. I saw alot of them open. However it seemed that they were taking so long to get open, that the pocket was collapsing. Is that partly a problem of Troy not being patient enough? Maybe. What's amazing is, I was actually happy to see those 2 deep shots we took in the second half. Even though we missed on both, if you dont take those kind of shots every so often, then your routes are insanely predictable.

The run was working, Pittman had some nice runs, why did we almost completely abandon it in the second half, only down 7 points?

I really dont know what else to say. It is very frustrating to see so much talent goin to waste. Oh and Steve, I get such a kick out of your epic posts man. You are like BP's Mel Gibson

:osu: I glad to see that. I think the touch TS put on the pass was probably consistant
sorry.... consistent with what they practiced - maybe the field conditions slowed Holms down a bit - he had space, between the defender.

Seems like something Santonio said earlier in the week. I guess he was wrong.....

No he was exactly right, he just left something out....."There defense isnt THAT good, but our offense is awful, and has been for years, so their defense is gonna look a hell of alot better than they are"

*sarcasm font by the way*

After sleeping this one over and thinking about this game, Penn State was the better team last night. This was there biggest games years and they came to play (at least their defense). There is a lot of blame to go around. I still think Tressel should get some of the grief for this offense but I am done bashing Tressel. I think we should see more I formation next week with Dionte Johnson. Troy Smith may not be a spread offense QB. Maybe this team never had the talent on offense to win a national championship. Troy Smith couldn't hit the broad side of the barn and I don't think Zwick could have done much better. A guard/center is playing left tackle (look at who all the great OSU offenses had at that position) and when Barton went down the o line was in shambles. The running back position is average at best. Ginn is not playing well right now. I am moving on and looking ahead to Michigan St. If I offended anyone (espically OSUgrad21) with my cussing after the game then I apologize. Time to enjoy 11 hours of NFL.

JT can tell him how and what to do via film, practice, reps, and scouting reports, but when the lights come on...it is Troy who must make the play.

Completely agree but if you have a guy who just doesn't get any better after 4 years and you don't have anyone better to take his place...its on you as the man in charge of the organization.

I know its that way in any organization I have been a part of. The leader is ultimately responsible for the output of his people.
